As the school year comes to an end, our final Performers of the Month go out to Sophomore Wyatt Klaphake and 8th grader Nell Wiechmann. Both of these athletes are extremely dedicated and hardworking. They are both the type of athletes who not only make themselves better, but also make everyone else around them better. They embody the team-first culture, and that elevates everyone else around them. Looking forward to seeing how much further they will take their athletic development!

The 3rd annual Speed School Throwdown with Minnewaska Athletic Development has come to a conclusion. I am pleased to announce that Melrose was able to come away with the victory and regain the traveling trophy! It was a lot of fun to see a number of Personal Bests by the athletes who showed up and competed. I will post an additional slide in the coming days of some individual numbers. Great work, everyone!

April Performers of the Month πŸ’ͺ
The Team of the Month for April was the Junior High Track & Field Team. This group trained 2x a week and did a great job each time they stepped into the room. These athletes are building a foundation that will help them in all their athletic endeavors moving forward!
The male and female performers of the month are Eric Braun and Avery Braegelmann. These two juniors are no strangers to our athletic development program. Both are regulars for our morning Speed and Strength and have established a well-rounded year-long training routine. They continue to make small improvements as they stack quality training days on top of each other.
It was a great month of training for the Dutchmen!

Way behind on this post. The performers for March are awarded to the following individuals and team.
The male and female performers of the month go to 8th grader, Landon Schmidt and 11th grader, Rachel Welle. Both athletes are consistent in our morning Strength & Speed group. They are both dedicated to becoming the best athletes they can be for their teams and are pushing themselves each time they train to be able to do that. Their monthly improvements are shown in their individual pictures.
The Softball team was the team that brought the most to each training session in March. March was still a challenging time for spring sports with the weather and field conditions. This group made the most of their time indoors and stacked a lot of good training days on top of one another!
Great month of work, Dutchmen!

Last winter, we started a new recognition. Winter is the longest sports season and can be a "grind" at times. The Hard Hat is a symbol of those who are able to show up and train with the same mindset and energy every session. When a person wears a hard hat on a job site, it is time to "Get to Work." These athletes were voted on by their teammates at the end of their seasons for being the athlete who was consistently getting their work done with the right work ethic when they stepped through the doors. Rightfully so, we had some teams that were decided by 1 or 2 votes because of how difficult the decision may have been. This year's athletes who got to sign their name on their team's respective hats include:
Dance Team: Lizbeth Raya Ambriz
Boys Swim & Dive: Evan Meyer
Girls Basketball: Avery Braegelmann
Boys Basketball: Riley Elfering
Gymnastics: Courtney Ellering

The February Performers of the Month are Thor Hoppe and Izzie Van Beck. At the end of February, we had our end-of-winter testing on the metrics that we tested in November. We had many athletes with some really great improvements. These two had the biggest improvements between the two time periods. Both of these athletes are very consistent and committed to their training. Izzie was not present on the day we did our pre-test this November for the 40 Yard Dash. However, from the previous November, her 40 time improved from a 6.23 to a 5.87 this February.
You can find Thor hitting bombs on this baseball diamond, and Izzie hitting nukes off the Tee box this spring.

A big THANK YOU to our Dutchmen Boosters Club! They have been very supportive over the years to our strength and speed department. They have generously given more money again to help keep chocolate milk provided to the student athletes. The milk is a great resource for recovery following the training sessions. We are very grateful and appreciative of the support!

πŸ’ͺ The January Performers of the Month πŸ’ͺ
The team of the month for January was the Junior High Boys Basketball Team. Not often do I come across a group of kids who love to train like this group does. They are very coachable in their focus of instruction and attention to detail in their work. They work with a high level of effort and push one another to be at their best.

For the Winter Strength & Speed program, we have Nolan Myers and Anika Bersheit. Nolan is a sophomore who rarely misses a morning of training. For the last couple of years, Nolan has really dedicated his time and energy into his athletic performance and has been rewarded for that effort. He has made great progress during that course of time and January is an example of that progress. Anika is a Junior and another athlete who has been a regular to our morning lifting sessions. Similar to Nolan, Anika has spent a lot of time dedicated to improving her athletic abilities. Her consistency has been paying off as she has been seeing increases in her strength and power.

Congratulations to all these athletes!
