New month, new newsletter. πŸ“¬

This month's theme: Breaking the career Groundhog Day loop.

You know the feeling - same patterns, same frustrations, same internal debate about whether to stay or go. The sense that something needs to change, but you're not sure what.

Here's what I've learned: The cycle doesn't break by moving faster or making a big decision. It breaks when you get clear about what's actually keeping you stuck.

In this month's edition, I share the Four Diagnostic Questions I work through with clients at career inflection points:

1. The Capability Question: Am I stuck because I lack skills, or because my value isn't visible?
2. The Environment Question: Is this organization capable of giving me what I need next?
3. The Timing Question: Am I strategically ready to move, or just emotionally ready to leave?
4. The Positioning Question: Can people articulate what I'm uniquely good at?

These questions aren't meant to be answered quickly or alone. They're the beginning of a conversation about what's actually holding you back - and how to break the pattern.

If you're navigating a career inflection point, this newsletter is for you.

For the executives, mid-career professionals, and leaders navigating what's next: this is your year to ditch the doubt and own your next chapter.

✨ Clarity β†’ Confidence β†’ Strategic moves β†’ The right opportunities.

During a recent consultation, a prospective client asked me:

"How do I know what to look for in a career coach?"

Such a smart question, because the truth is, career support can look very different depending on who you're working with.

A few things I'd encourage anyone to look for:

✨ A coach who can clearly explain their approach (not just promise results). You should understand how they'll help you get from where you are to where you want to beβ€”step by step.

✨ Someone who starts with clarity, not your resume.** Before we fix anything on paper, we need to figure out what you actually want. That's where the real work happens.

✨ Support that's actually defined (not vague). What happens between sessions? How quickly will you get feedback? How do you reach them if you're stuck? These should have clear answers.

✨ A fit where you feel comfortable being real β€”because that's where progress happens. You should leave conversations feeling clearer, not more anxious.

✨ Tools you can use on your own. Good coaching gives you frameworks you can apply long after you stop working together.

If you're navigating a career crossroads and want support that's human-to-human and focused on what YOU actually want (not just what's out there), message me the word CLARITY and I'll send you my scheduling link.

Quick exercise before the year-end chaos hits...

What's your word for 2026?

Not your goals. Not your resolutions. Not your 47-point plan for total life transformation. πŸ˜…

Just ONE word.

The word that captures what you want your next year to FEEL like.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Here are some examples to get you thinking:

✨ Clarity
✨ Confidence
✨ Impact
✨ Freedom
✨ Alignment
✨ Momentum
✨ Purpose
✨ Simplicity
✨ Growth
✨ Courage
✨ Balance
✨ Legacy
✨ Ease
✨ Joy

Your word becomes your compass for the year.

When you're facing a career decision in 2026, you ask yourself: "Does this choice move me closer to [my word] or further away?"

It sounds simple. But it's incredibly powerful.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I ask every executive I work with to choose their word at the start of our partnership.

And here's the pattern I've noticed:

The leaders who can name their word clearly and confidently? They make strategic moves that actually align with what they're building.

The ones who struggle to name their word? They're still reacting to whatever opportunities randomly show up, feeling perpetually off-course.

Your word matters more than you think.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

So here's your assignment this weekend (yes, homework! 😊):

Take 10 minutes. Sit somewhere quiet. Ask yourself:

"What do I want 2026 to feel like?"

And find the ONE word that captures it.

Then drop it in the comments below. I want to see what word you chooseβ€”and I'll respond to every single one. πŸ‘‡

And if you need help turning that word into an actual strategic career plan for 2026... I have consultation openings through the end of December.

"I don't have time for strategic career planning right now."

Can I be real with you for a second?

I hear this objection ALL. THE. TIME.

And look, I get it. You're slammed. You're running a team, managing stakeholders, delivering on goals, maybe traveling for work, dealing with year-end craziness, and also trying to have some semblance of a life outside of work.

Strategic career planning feels like one more thing you don't have bandwidth for.

But here's what I've learned after doing this work for 7+ years:

You don't "find time" for strategic career work.

You LOSE time by avoiding it.

Let me show you the math... πŸ“Š

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

SCENARIO A: "I don't have time for strategy"

β†’ 6+ months feeling misaligned and stuck
β†’ 3 months frantically updating resume and applying to roles
β†’ 2 months in interview processes for jobs that don't actually fit
β†’ Accept something out of desperation or pressure
β†’ 12-18 months realizing you're STILL in the wrong place
β†’ Start the whole exhausting process over again

**Total time lost: 24-30 months of your precious career** 😱

SCENARIO B: "I'm making time for strategic work"

β†’ 4-6 weeks of focused discovery and strategy work
β†’ 2-3 months of intentional positioning and relationship building
β†’ Opportunities that actually align with your trajectory start appearing
β†’ Make a strategic move you don't regret

**Total time invested: 3-4 months** βœ…

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Here's the truth bomb: "I don't have time" usually means "I'm scared of what I might discover about what I really want."

And that's OKAY. Discovery work IS uncomfortable. It forces you to be honest with yourself.

But you know what's more uncomfortable? Staying misaligned for another entire year (or two, or three...).

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

If you're heading into 2026 telling yourself "I don't have time for this..."

I'd gently challenge that.

You don't have time NOT to do this.

I have consultation openings through the end of December for executives ready to invest the time now so they don't waste 2026.

Honest question: What's the REAL reason you haven't done this strategic work yet? (No judgmentβ€”I want to understand what's actually blocking you.) πŸ‘‡

12/17/2025

Let me tell you about the most dangerous question in career planning...

"What should I do?"

I hear this ALL the time. And look, I get it. When you're feeling stuck or confused about your next move, you just want someone to tell you THE answer. Give you the plan. The roadmap. The "right" next step.

But here's why that question is actually holding you back:

"What should I do?" assumes there's one correct answer. One optimal path. One right move.

And that's just not how executive careers work in the real world. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

THE QUESTIONS THAT ACTUALLY MOVE YOU FORWARD:

Instead of "What should I do?" try asking:

β†’ What do I actually WANT? (Not what looks impressive on LinkedIn)
β†’ What am I building toward? (Not just "what's my next job")
β†’ What's really blocking me? (Real constraints vs. stories I'm telling myself)
β†’ What would true alignment feel like for me? (Not just what's available right now)

These questions are harder. They require real introspection. They don't have quick, easy answers.

But they lead to strategic moves instead of desperate ones.

They lead to clarity instead of confusion.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

I can't tell you what you SHOULD do.

No one can. Anyone who promises they can is selling you something. 😬

But what I CAN do is help you get crystal clear on what YOU actually want to do.

And that clarity? It changes everything.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

If you're heading into 2026 still stuck on "what should I do?"β€”let's shift that question together.

I have consultation openings through the end of December.

The job market has fundamentally changedβ€”but not in the way most people think.

New research analyzing 2026 career trends confirms what I'm seeing with the leaders I work with:

βœ… The market is competitive, but it's not shrinking
βœ… AI is reshaping work, but human skills matter more than ever
βœ… Success isn't about the "right" backgroundβ€”it's about clarity on where you add value

Here's what I see over and over: talented professionals with years of experience struggling to move to the next levelβ€”not because they lack capability, but because they lack strategic positioning.

They can't translate their skills into what today's market demands. They're unclear on timing. They don't know how to articulate their impact in ways that resonate.

That's what I'm unpacking in my new monthly newsletter, Strategic Movesβ€”real insights on navigating career transitions in this evolved landscape.

If you're thinking about your next career move (or know someone who is), I'd love to have you join.

I've been thinking about what makes strategic career partnerships actually work...

And it's not what most people expect.

Most executives come to me asking for tactics:
β†’ "Can you update my resume?"
β†’ "Should I optimize my LinkedIn?"
β†’ "How do I apply to more roles?"

But here's what I've learned after 7+ years of doing this work:

The executives who make the most strategic moves aren't the ones who jump to tactics fastest.

They're the ones who get clear FIRST.

Here's the pattern I see over and over:

A leader feels stuck. They think they need better tacticsβ€”better resume, better LinkedIn, better applications.

But when we pause and do real discovery work, we uncover something different:

β†’ The federal executive who realized she didn't actually want another federal roleβ€”she wanted board work and advisory positions

β†’ The corporate leader who discovered he was building toward consulting, not another VP role

β†’ The purpose-driven professional who understood she wasn't stuckβ€”she was just profoundly misaligned

The problem wasn't their tactics.

The problem was they were optimizing for the wrong outcome.

And if you optimize for the wrong thing, you just get there faster. 😬

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

This is why I start every partnership with discovery workβ€”not tactics.

Because once you're clear on what you're actually building, the strategy becomes obvious.

Clarity β†’ Strategy β†’ Confidence.

In that order. Always.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

If you're feeling stuck or misaligned right now, the problem might not be your tactics.

It might be that you haven't done the discovery work yet.

I have consultation openings this month if you're ready to get clear on what you're actually building.
