Be aware of the construction on the Roche de Boeuf.

A project to partially deconstruct the Roche de Boeuf bridge structure over the Maumee River is underway in southwest Waterville.

The project is fascinating with lots of anticipation about what will happen next and how it will look during and after.

However, the area is now an active construction zone with large equipment and changing conditions. For that, the river is CLOSED with four signs indicating such, along with buoys which read “keep out”. It is not safe to access the causeway or waterway beyond the posted signs.

We recognize decades of summer traditions include traversing the waterway and exploring the rock itself, and those traditions will be restored as soon as safely possible.

For now, please stay out of the closed area - both on land and in the water (highlighted in red to be sure).

Sam Wyse got this walleye from the mighty maumee yesterday. It holding resident walleye! He caught this one near grand rapids dam. Just out enjoying the day and this fish made it even better.

The bridge to the Audubon Islands State Nature Preserve has been removed. Glenn took these pics. There is a lot of stone along the bank but it’s a pretty sharp drop into the water. This will make it difficult for fisherman during the higher water.

The removal of the bridge will allow boaters to access the river by passing behind the island like normal. That’s super helpful.

Scientists have found the first-ever transmissible cancer in a freshwater fish. Brown bullhead catfish are developing black skin tumors that aren’t caused by a virus or bacteria—the cancer cells themselves spread from fish to fish like a parasite.

Even though this was found in Lake Memphremagog we should watch this closely to see if this is more prevalent in other areas. It’s the first known case in any freshwater fish.
About 30% of brown bullhead in one lake were found with the disease. The cancer has also been found in several other lakes across New England and Canada.

Currently, there is no known risk to humans, and researchers say the cancer cannot infect people or other species.This discovery could change how scientists understand cancer in wildlife—and maybe even lead to new insights into cancer in humans.

Most outdoorsman and women are great individuals! However in everything in life there are a few rotten people. The case on the Creek King Deer Poaching Case is super interesting and really great detective work. These guys poached deer off the Metropark and posted it all on YouTube!

The air quality is so much better! 500+ to 50 feel so different. No smoke right now near the Maumee River. Looks like a great weekend day to head out and do some fishing! Good luck.
