When did natural food become considered “health food”?

Oh wait, I know!

When convenience foods became the norm!

When fast food wasn’t a treat anymore.

When sugar wasn’t added to 90% of the foods we eat.

Your body was made for natural food. And if it doesn’t get it, it gets confused.

What happens to a confused body?
- weight gain
- poor sleep
- lethargic
- illness/disease

Start eating what we were intended to eat.

It doesn’t taste good? That means that you are probably addicted to sugar. 😬😩😳

DOING MORE ISN’T THE ANSWER - unless we’re talking about sleep! 😴

If you are doing things the right way, you don’t need to spend hours in the gym!

Stop trying to kill yourself!

The right way? Depends on your age, hormones, and other factors.

BUT, a good rule of thumb is several 30 minute hard-core sessions a week, and lots of functional movements/walking in between….

Here is what I typically concentrate on.

🏋️‍♂️ Strength/Heavy lifting (2-3 times/week)
🏃‍♀️ Sprint intervals - heart rate work (2-3 times/week)
🧘‍♀️ Yoga/Functional movements (2-3 times/week)
🚶‍♀️Walking (as much as possible)

All of my workouts tend to be 30-45 min session tops! (Except for the walking.)

The key is to really work hard in your workouts, then get in and get out!

Stop the unnecessary scrolling in between sets.

Stop the endless cardio steady-state stuff….

Save your extra time during your day for family, friends, and that much needed sleep! (Which should be your first priority!) 🛌

A REAL EXAMPLE OF “NO EXCUSES”! Meet Tim.

Tim has Parkinson’s Disease.
He is in his 70’s.
He just had surgery on his knee 2 weeks ago.

Tim showed up to the gym this week. 👊🏻

Does he have restrictions? Yep.
Do we care? Nope.
Because he’ll still move his body as much as he can.

Limitations are not valid reasons to skip exercising.

There is always something you can do.

Listen to Tim and stop using limitations as your excuse. 🛑

ASPARAGUS SEASON! One of the best things about spring time…. I like to call it a superfood! With good reason. 👌

Asparagus is a highly nutritious, low-calorie vegetable packed with fiber, folate, and vitamins K and C.

It promotes digestive health, regulates blood pressure, and provides potent antioxidants that help reduce inflammation.

I’ve been heavily supplied this spring from my friends, Ed & Kathy!

And this my friends is one of the reasons why I’m gluten-free in the US, but I’ll eat the bread in Europe!

And maybe that’s why I love Europe so much!? ✈️🥖😂

MEDITERRANEAN BEAN SALAD! 🥗 Dump salads are back for summertime at the Boerboom household during my food prep day….

This one is Mediterranean style.

Ingredients:
Navy beans 🫘
Pinto beans 🫘
Chickpeas
Cucumbers 🥒
Tomatoes 🍅
Bell peppers 🫑
Onion 🧅
Kalamata olives 🫒
Artichokes
Basil 🌿
Garlic 🧄

Dressing:
Olive oil 🫒
Red wine vinegar
Lime juice 🍋‍🟩
Salt/pepper

I’m not good at measuring these kinds of salads. So get creative!

Adding beans to your salad adds plant-based protein and tons of fiber!

Don’t forget the beans! 🫘

A perfect salad lunch salad.

Serving tips!
- add feta on top before serving.
- mix in shredded chicken. 🐓
- use as a side dish for grilled meat 🥩
