Alpacka Raft

Alpacka Raft Join the adventure. Welcome to Alpacka Raft. Our values reflect the history of our boats and the makers who design, craft, and use them. Happy boating!

Alpacka Raft started the fall of 2000 as a collaboration between mother-son team Sheri and Thor Tingey. 20+ years later, every Alpacka Raft is handmade in our Mancos, CO factory, for adventurers by adventurers like you. We are a tribe of genuine, self-reliant and creative eccentrics, enthusiastic about unique adventure and passionate about the product. We recognize our packrafts give people an in

credible freedom to explore; they are tools that help people actualize adventures, even ones yet to be imagined. And so we encourage explorers to use them with a beginner’s mind because there are no rules with a packraft, except to have fun, be safe, and to not take life too seriously. Always remember, each person has her or his own great journey to discover. Mission: Alpacka Raft seeks to design and hand craft the most innovative, premium packrafts available. We strive for a legacy of leadership, stewardship, and support that allows our community of diverse boaters a lifetime of use and adventure-driven fun.

The Alpacka Chinook packraft made Backpacker Magazine's "The Gear That Backpacker’s Editors Loved" list in May! Specifically watch the video where editor, Adam Roy, shows off the Chinook in action (you may be served the ad first but the video is worth it).

From camping along the Washington coast to running the Colorado River, Backpacker's editors are finishing up spring in style. This is the gear that helped us do it.

The Valkyrie V3 was made for this.

But if you’re watching this footage thinking, “Yeah… dropping waterfalls isn’t for me,” don’t worry — you don’t need to be running waterfalls to love the Valkyrie V3.

Whether you’re building your whitewater skills, stepping into more technical rivers, or searching for “the kayaker’s packraft,” the Valkyrie delivers the pinnacle of whitewater performance in an inflatable package.

Not quite sure it's for you, also check out the Mage. That's another awesome option for whitewater.

Here’s a fun project the Alpacka team recently helped bring to life at the Mancos Public Library, led by our very talented Bri States. The library needed a way to protect the floor in their community room, so we stitched together boat scrap materials to create a one-of-a-kind solution. Check it out in the library’s latest newsletter or stop in to see it, if you're in town.

The Russian River needs our attention and care. This year, my friend Billy and I set out to paddle all 115 miles of it, from Lake Mendocino to the sea. Not in a single epic push, but in sections — weekends strung together into one long conversation with the river. Because in truth, this journey isn’t just about distance. It’s about persistence, resilience, and listening to the messy intersection of human history and wild water.

"On day one, I set a personal record for packraft abuse. Some sections of “river” (can you call 20 cfs a river?) were idyllic fairy-lands of flowing clear water and green grass. Other spots were cattail Hell. Genus Typha; a.k.a. cattail, bulrush, or my personal favorite, from the Australians—cumbungi. They filled the riverbed. Sometimes I could paddle through. More often I was forced to wade."
