5 reasons I value kids in our gym:

1. Parents feel supported. The challenge of making time for your own self care after managing work/school schedules, running errands, preparing meals, driving to family events, games, and everything in between on this crazy carousel of life is tough. Having space where parents can still show up for themselves is important.

2. These kids are learning… that self care is not selfish, but necessary. That mom & dad care enough about being fit, functional, and healthy to be an active part of their lives for decades to come. Even more, that staying active and healthy is not a chore but it’s FUN!

3. They’re building confidence. They learn how to navigate and feel comfortable in a gym setting. Something [feeling intimidated with equipment we don’t understand] that for many of us adults has held us back from starting our health journeys. They explore how to move their bodies, how to ask questions, how to try new things, and how to see value in community and investing in their health. Those seeds can grow into habits and values they carry with them as they get older.

4. They make it fun for us! Their curious questions, silly commentary, “watch what I can do!” moments, and “I DID IT!” celebrations spark so much joy and laughter in this space.

5. They get to see what real strength and practice looks like. Not just lifting heavy things, but showing up, trying again, encouraging others, making progress, and being part of a community where all ages and abilities are welcome.

It brings me such joy that these gym kids are part of our culture. They’re watching. They’re learning. And sometimes, they’re reminding all of us that movement is allowed to be playful, messy, joyful, and fun.

Balance isn’t a party trick. 🪄

It’s a life skill. 💖

When most people think of balance training, they picture standing on one leg or trying not to wobble. But balance extends far beyond just that.

Your balance relies on a complex conversation between your brain, nervous system, muscles, joints, vision, and inner ear. The better those systems communicate, the better your body can react, stabilize, coordinate movement, and recover from unexpected challenges.

For younger adults, balance training can improve body awareness, coordination, athletic performance, reaction time, and injury resilience.

For older adults, it becomes even more important. Falls are one of the leading causes of injury and loss of independence as we age. A decline in balance can impact confidence, cognition, mobility, and overall quality of life.

That’s why balance training is built into our programming. Not so you can flex standing on a BOSU ball. 😉 But so you can catch yourself when you trip, navigate uneven terrain, move with confidence, react more quickly, stay active, and continue doing the things you love for years to come.

Because balance training isn’t about showing off your skill (though it IS FUN! 😜). It’s about training your brain and body to work together so you can move through life with strength, confidence, and independence. 💪🏼
