Hi all! As you may or may not be aware, over the last couple years, I’ve been the Mancos Booster Club President. With my daughter graduating this upcoming May, I will be passing the torch so to speak.
For those of you not familiar with the Booster Club, we support not only CHSAA activities, but loads of other organizations through our school district including different classes and clubs in their fundraising efforts. One of the most obvious contribution is the Senior banners that we have made every year. We are especially excited for this year, as we are working with Mr. Hughes to not only have banners for our Senior athletes, but one for every Senior in the class. These banners will be on display the week of graduation with the new brackets we are working with the welding class to have made as a PBL project. We look to continue this new tradition in the upcoming years to honor our hardworking kiddos!
Other notable contributions are the yearly homecoming tailgate, our concessions stands, Senior nights for sports, our scholarships that we award to 2 deserving students to help further their education, the support we give to teams participating in State competitions, and the assistance we provide with fundraising for different grades and extracurricular organizations.
During my time of volunteering, I have seen so many of our kids succeed and, when faced with them, handle setbacks with grace, compassion, and resilience. This is learned by example and by the influence of the adults they interact with daily. By participating in the school, whether it via Booster Club, PTA, Watchdog or any other program, you are setting a standard for not only your kiddo, but all the students you come in contact with throughout the day about how rewarding giving back and volunteering in your school can be. It helps mold them into the well-adjusted, thriving adults we have relied on our school district to send out into the world.
We are currently looking for more members, as all of the activities we undertake utilize a ton of time and a giant group effort. I’d like to call on our parents and community to ask for your help to close these gaps and be willing to participate. The Booster Club meets once a month, usually the second week for about a half hour - 45 minutes at 5:30pm and then completes the necessities of shopping, planning, etc. as required. It doesn’t take much time and you don’t have to volunteer for every activity, but showing up for meetings and signing up for events as you can would be great! There are many flexible opportunities, especially if your students play sports, to ensure you can watch them!
Our next meeting is February 11th at 5:30pm in the historic gym’s lobby. We look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at (757)752-0226.
