84 days until the Beavers begin year number 54 on the gridiron!
takes us back 50 years ago to 1976! Leading up to the 76’ season, the Beavers had gone a total of 2-29 over the first four years of the program’s existence. A winning culture hadn’t been thought of, and winning a single game or two was something many were proud of. That all changed when a coach by the name of Gus Robey took over as head coach in 1976. Coach Robey and his staff guided the Beavers to new heights and set new standards for the program. The Beavers recorded their first ever winning season going 8-2 and finishing 3rd in the old Region 5-B conference. Two wins over long time rivals Bauxite and Bismarck marked the first time Glen Rose had defeated the two in the long history between the teams. The 1976 season proved to be a key moment in the program’s history as the idea that “Glen Rose could never compete at football”, suddenly became an after thought!
We would love to hear memories of that historic season!
