๐ข MALVERN HAS THEIR FIRST-EVER STATE PLACER!!! ๐ช
Jerry Stringer placed 4th in his finals match today!! He fought hard, didn't give up, and came out aggressive and ready to wrestle. What an INCREDIBLE season finale for not only himself, but also, this program.
This sport really is so unbelievable. The level of discipline, grit, and toughness it takes to wrestle is unparalleled. It is the ultimate test of not only physical strength, but mental fortitude. It will push you beyond your limits and then ask for you to give twice as much afterwards. The bond between wrestlers and coaches is an unbreakable one. The appreciation and sportsmanship for our opponents is of the highest degree. There are no words that can sum up how it feels to be on the mat testing yourself against another wrestler, who is trying to beat you.
Jerry has finished his senior season of wrestling for Malvern High School with a record of 21 wins and 4 losses, with all 21 of his wins being pins. Jerry received a lot of attention from so many other wrestlers at other schools (most of them strangers!), who have been wowed with his incredibly fast-paced wrestling style all season. There were so many people we had never seen before walking past him to say "Good luck Jerry Stringer!" There were even a few colleges that sat down to speak to him this weekend, and they will be keeping in touch.
This has been a life-changing season for all of us!
In the words of Coach Doug McGuire:
"The crazy thing about wrestling is kids hug each other after a tough battle. Coaches celebrate coaches from other teams on their accomplishments. Wrestling is family. Wrestling is different."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves. We owe a lot to Arkansas Center for Sports Science Training. and Southern Arkansas Wrestling Academy for helping us be the best we can be. Coach McGuire and SAWA means so much to us.
We have spent so many grueling hours on the mat, but we aren't done yet! Jerry will be doing Spring and Summer wrestling at SAWA (partnering with Coach Allen some??) for Freestyle and Greco-Roman, and he is hoping to place and travel to Fargo, ND to compete for the Arkansas National Team.
We are happy to say that, this season, we came, we saw, and !!!
