🌊🤿 DIVE IN. GIVE BACK. BE PART OF YOUR OCEAN COMMUNITY.

On September 19, we’re bringing our scuba divers and freedivers together for our annual Coastal Cleanup Day — because the ocean we love to dive in deserves our help. 💙

Every piece of debris we remove is one less piece threatening our reefs, marine life and local underwater ecosystem.

And yes… there will be some seriously awesome prizes, including these gorgeous SCUBAPRO Jet Sport Fins! 😍

But the real win is getting in the water with your dive community and doing something good for the place we all love.

Come dive with us.
Come help.
Come meet fellow ocean lovers.
Come be part of the solution. 🌊

❤️ September 2 — Remembering the 34

Today marks the anniversary of the 2019 M/V Conception tragedy, when 34 people lost their lives in one of the darkest days in the history of California diving.

Our hearts remain with the 34 souls who were lost, and with their families, friends, fellow divers, and everyone whose lives were changed that morning.

We will never forget.

Several of the people aboard the Conception were friends and clients of ours. For our Malibu Divers family, this was personal.

In the months that followed, we quietly worked behind the scenes to do something we felt was important.

With the blessing and approval of the families, Malibu Divers helped raise corporate donations to create a 300-pound granite memorial stone and plaque for the underwater site where these 34 people perished.

Getting that memorial in place wasn't simple. We worked with five different government agencies to obtain the necessary approvals, coordinated the logistics, and made the placement happen in 2020.

On that first anniversary, we also chartered a boat and brought family members and friends back to the site so they could dive and visit the memorial together.

At the time, we didn't talk much about what Malibu Divers had done.

It wasn't about us. It was about them.

We didn't need recognition. We wanted to create a place where the 34 could be remembered beneath the sea they loved.

But seven years later, we realize that many people may not know this part of the story.

So perhaps today, just this once, we'll take a small bow. ❤️

Not for recognition—but because sometimes the work you do quietly deserves to be remembered, too.

The memorial at Platts Harbor is a beautiful, solemn and incredibly meaningful dive. If you ever have the opportunity to visit it, we encourage you to do so with respect and remembrance.

Leave nothing but bubbles.
Take nothing but memories.
And remember the 34.

Forever in our hearts.
Forever part of our diving community. ❤️

🌊 WE'RE GOING WITH THE FLOW! 🐋🤿

Tomorrow's Malibu Divers Exploration Webinar has MOVED!

📅 NEW DATE: Wednesday, September 16
⏰ 5:00 PM PT

And we think it's going to be one you don't want to miss.

🐋 Dr. Deborah Giles of SeaDoc Society will join us to talk about the Southern Resident Killer Whales—the incredible orcas that travel our Pacific Coast waters and have been making headlines here in California.

These aren't just "somewhere else" whales.

They're California's whales, too.

We'll go beyond the headlines and explore who they are, how they use our waters, what they need to survive, and why their story is connected to the health of the ocean we all love.

❤️ We also recognize that tomorrow, September 2, marks the anniversary of the 2019 M/V Conception tragedy. Our hearts and thoughts are with the 34 souls lost and their families, friends and fellow divers. We felt September 2 should be a day of remembrance.

And then there's Malibu…

🌴 Warm weather
🌊 BIG surf

🐟 Coastal Cleanup Day — Sept. 19 — almost SOLD OUT!

We've learned something after all these years:

You can make the plan.
The ocean makes the schedule.

So we're going with the flow, watching for that smaller surf, and getting ready to get back in the water! 🤿🌊

🌊 Your Voice Matters: Help California's Southern Resident Killer Whales 🐋

California's Southern Resident Killer Whales need our attention—and your voice can help.

The California Fish and Game Commission has designated the Southern Resident Killer Whale (SRKW) as a candidate for listing as an endangered species under the California Endangered Species Act. CDFW is now conducting a scientific status review and is asking the public for information and comments.

These remarkable whales—members of the J, K and L pods—are fish-eating orcas whose survival depends heavily on Chinook salmon. K and L pod whales have been documented in California waters, particularly during winter, making them very much part of the California ocean ecosystem we all share.

🐋 You don't have to live in California to participate.

If you care about these whales, their habitat, Chinook salmon, and the health of our Pacific Ocean, you can submit a comment to CDFW.

📅 Comment deadline: September 10, 2026

📧 Email: [email protected]
Subject: Southern Resident Killer Whale

You can share why these whales matter to you, what you've observed, your concerns about their habitat and survival, or simply express your support for their protection.

Every informed voice matters.

Scary? A little. Fun? A LOT. Want to do it again? ABSOLUTELY! 🤿🌊😄

There’s something pretty special about watching kids discover the underwater world for the very first time.

We recently introduced a group of young divers to SCUBA in their own pool—learning to breathe underwater, getting comfortable with the gear, mastering new skills, and, of course, having a whole lot of fun along the way!

There were some wide eyes. Some nervous moments. Plenty of laughter.

And then came that magical moment when they realized:

“Wait... I can actually DO this!” 🤿

Once they were ready, we took the adventure to their own backyard—the Malibu reefs—for some snorkeling and a chance to see what lives just beneath the surface.

And the verdict?

Scary. Fun. AMAZING. And... when can we do it again?! (The next day - they asked for a repeat!)😂

That's what we love about introducing kids to the ocean. It's not about rushing them. It's about giving them the skills, confidence, and encouragement to discover what they're capable of at their own pace.

Today it's bubbles in a pool and snorkeling along the reef.

Tomorrow? Who knows where those adventures might take them. 🌎🌊

If your kids are curious about what's beneath the surface, come let us introduce them to the underwater world.

The adventure starts with a single breath... and a whole lot of curiosity. 💙

What if the biggest threat to our oceans isn't something you can see?

Microplastics have become an invisible "plastic smog" drifting through every corner of our planet—from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to Antarctica, from our local beaches and kelp forests to the seafood we eat.

In this eye-opening webinar, Dr. Victoria Fulfer, Microplastics Scientist with The 5 Gyres Institute, takes us around the world to explain what microplastics are, where they come from, how scientists study them, and—most importantly—what each of us can do to help.

As divers, we have a front-row seat to the underwater world. We also have an opportunity to become informed ambassadors for protecting it.

🎥 Watch now on the Malibu Divers YouTube channel! or go to our LINKTREE in profile for link
https://youtu.be/FIhrIduda3M

You'll discover:
🌎 Why the Great Pacific Garbage Patch isn't what most people imagine
🔬 How microplastics travel from our cities to the most remote places on Earth
🐠 What scientists are learning about impacts on marine life
🤿 Why this matters to every diver, surfer, beachgoer, and ocean lover
💙 Practical actions that really can make a difference

Whether you're passionate about diving, marine life, conservation, or simply understanding one of today's biggest environmental challenges, this is a webinar you'll be glad you watched.

Another Open Water & Advanced Open Water adventure... DONE! 🎉🤿

This weekend we headed aboard our favorite boat, the Raptor, to one of our favorite dive destinations—Anacapa Island in the Northern Channel Islands.

Were conditions perfect? Not even close. A bumpy ride out, below-average visibility, and later a strong current. But the water was warm, the surface was relatively calm, and the ocean still delivered.

🦭 A high speed sea lion "mugged" us divers from behind (the funniest kind of surprise... after your heart starts beating again! 😂)

🦇 A giant bat ray put on a show.

🌈 Spanish shawls brightened the reef.

📦 We found mysterious research containers.

🦞 Lobsters cornered on reef ledge... but sadly, it's not the season!

🐌 Giant sea hares were busy laying long strings of "spaghetti" eggs—perfect timing while completing our Naturalist specialty dive.

Our Deep Dive was cut short because of a strong head-on current. Disappointing? Sure. The right decision? Absolutely. Safe divers adapt.

The next day we timed our beach dives for high slack tide, practiced deploying a DSMB, and sharpened our underwater navigation skills in limited visibility, current, surge, and a featureless sandy bottom. Honestly, there's no better way to learn navigation than when conditions make you think!

By the end of the weekend, everyone completed their certifications and gained something even more valuable than another C-card—experience; mileage counts!

Because experience isn't measured by the number of dives you log. It's earned by reading the conditions, making smart decisions, adapting to what the ocean gives you, and respecting that the sea is always in charge.

Sometimes it even sends you tumbling through the surf on your way out... and that's okay. We laugh, we learn, and we come back better divers.

Congratulations to our newest Open Water and Advanced Open Water divers! Your adventure is just getting started. 🌊💙

🔬 Did you know...?

Scientists have found microplastics...

❄️ In Antarctica
🐟 Inside marine animals
🌊 Throughout the world's oceans
🏔️ Even in remote wilderness areas

They're nearly invisible—but their impact is becoming impossible to ignore.

Join Dr. Victoria Fulfer, Microplastics Scientist with The 5 Gyres Institute, as she explains how global research is helping communities understand—and tackle—one of the biggest environmental challenges facing our oceans.

If you love diving, marine life, clean beaches, or simply want to understand what's happening beneath the surface, you'll leave this webinar seeing the ocean in a whole new way.
