This July 25th from 11am-6pm we’re excited to offer
“Ayacaxti (Middle Earth) - a Bison
Crystal Rattle Making Workshop” with Guillermo Martinez in the transcendent ocean view Awoken Space.

The rattle or Ayacaxtli is one of the sacred trilogy of indigenous instrumentation(with the drum and the flute).
All participants will be crafting two Bison rawhide rattles filled with healing gems and natural beach stones of your choice.
In our opening ceremony we will set the intention of our day, and discuss the sacred and the special place the rattles hold within it.
Using all sustainably sourced rawhide, materials and beautiful natural gemstones get ready to get hands on as you stitch and weave your personal touch into 2 rattles in this unique workshop.
In the afternoon we will take a snack break and ask students to please bring something to share if possible.
Connect with the Power of Resonance as you Create your own Crystal Rattle using ethically sourced gourds, crystals, and natural materials. By blending traditional techniques with your personal intention, you’ll craft a Sacred Tool for Healing, Ceremony, and Transformation

Here are some Infographics illustrating very powerful Yogic exercises. Those who have taken Awoken Yoga or Sūkshma Yyāyāma classes at the Awoken Space will be familiar with Purna-Bhuja-Shakti-Vikasaka, and the profound Consciousness Expanding potential of Vaksha-Sthala-Shakti-Vikasaka 1&2 and Ajagai.

A special note. During the Kumbhaka (Breath Retention) phase of Vaksha-Sthala-Shakti-Vikasaka 1&2 and Ajagai you’ll begin to merge the  consciousness and unconscious mind, when activating this root force (Kundaini), and as the subtle realm becomes known, it is advised to be careful. Hold the breath in these exercises only as long as your intuition guides and then be sure to exhale forcefully through the nose, taking the belly to the spine and up, reversing the contraction of consciousness and the downward flow of prana we then send lifeforce (Prana, Chi, Lüng) up the Shushumna (central channel) expanding consciousness and gaining access to more subtle perception. These exercises powerfully trigger the Vagus Nerve( the “nerve of consciousness”), in addition to the potential for consciousness expansion, activating the Vagus has been shown to lower inflammation, bring heart rate variability into coherence, alleviate depression, and act as a general panacea.

The infoformation on the graphics comes from Reinhard Gammenthaler’s book Kundalini-Yoga Parampara and in turn from the works of his guru Dhirendra Bramachari, namely Yogic Sūksma Vyāyāma and Yogāsana Vinjñāna. Sincere thanks to these heroes for making the power and ancient yogic exercises illustrated here available and accessible. It is in that spirit that these infographics were created.

A.I. Info. Yes, these graphics were made possible in part thru a digital neural network, a.k.a “artificial intelligence”. A wonderful but probabilistic tool( it works by probability), these works themselves were the result of much specificity and post-production. The original prompt was to depict these exercises in the style of the Joga Pradipika, a 1737 illustrated yogic text from Rajasthan. At some  point the art slightly shifted into various areas of artistic educational interpretive inspiration and accessibility.

Paramahansa Yogananda, a realized and awoken yogi and highly influential spiritual catalyst. After first arriving in the US in 1920, Yogananda travelled widely lecturing on the nature of divinity. Settling in Los Angeles circa 1925, Yogananda would go on to found the Self-Realization Fellowship. By 1927 he’d achieved such renown he was invited by President Calvin Coolidge to the White House. After publishing numerous books and articles, in 1946 his magnum opus “Autobiography of a Yogi” would debut, going on enrich the lives of millions. That book, infused with consciousness and wisdom. narrates Yogananda’s life’s journey, from birth, thru his boyhood and teenage years, his experience in America, returning to India and then to Encinitas, CA where he would write the book.

Yogananda’s parents were devotees of Lahiri Mahasaya, a Varanasi area guru, who in 1861 purportedly learned Kriya Yoga techniques directly from Mahvatar Babaji (a mythological and magical immortal yogi living in the Himalayas). It was in this lineage Yogananda was raised, encountering many saints and teachers before meeting his guru, Sri Yukteswar.

Yukteswar, a monk, kriya yogi, astronomer, and scholar, founded ashrams and mentored many disciples. (In 1894 Sri Yukteswar also reportedly met Babaji at the Kumbh Mela who then requested he author a book, the subsequent “Holy Science”) It was at Yukteswar’s direction Yogananda was sent to spread Self-Realization and Kriya Yoga to the Western World.

At the Awoken Space we are happy to carry many beautiful editions of “Autobiograpy of a Yogi”, along with other writings by Yogananda, Sri Yukteswar’s “The Holy Science”, along with many other enlightening books on a range of fascinating topics.

Alan Watts said “The value of a book like Yogananda’s is that it challenges the provincialism of the Western mind... it suggests that the universe is not a machine, but a play of consciousness.”
