Provide a brief overview of your professional background and experience?
My professional background prior to Reins in Motion was in sales/marketing. My work was mainly in San Francisco but branched out to Livermore.
Where are you from (born and raised), and where do you currently live?
Born and raised in San Francisco where I started my riding career in Golden Gate Park. For many years, I showed competitively on the jumper circuit all over California. My love of horses goes back to when I was a toddler, on a horse before I could walk. Both my mom and grandmother rode as well.
What motivated you to be a part of Reins in Motion?
For many years I wanted to start any organization to help at risk teens, working with horses. In 2006 a friend mentioned an organization that provided equine therapy for special needs children, I was intrigued. At that time, I began volunteering and never looked back. In 2010 we founded Reins in Motion and have been going strong ever since. It was the best decision I ever made.
When I began this journey, my son was 5 years old. He participated in camps and helped with the campers. It was an extraordinary life lesson for him to see children who were considered "different" but he saw them as just other kids. So powerful.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Clone me! I wear many hats and there are only so many hours in a day.
What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?
Jumping horses is very adventurous! Scary, dangerous and incredibly fun!
What is your favorite hobby or recreational activitity
Horses, first. I enjoy kayaking and hiking with my dogs.
What would your perfect Reins in Motion event look like, and most importantly, how would it benefit the community?
An event that showcases what we do in sessions. It is difficult to explain in words what we do and how the therapy works. People need to see it and feel it.
Share one piece of advice with us to help navigate life.
Be kind. You don't what someone might be going through.
