Got a text from Mason Arndt the other day telling me he had performed extremely well at the June 3 KU Football Elite Camp - a camp renowned for being tough to test well at.
Since sometimes there’s a discrepancy between unofficial & official measurements I decided to text the KU🏈 staff just to be sure.
Turns out he was right on point, the c/o 2029 DB/RB had run a 4.49 forty yard dash to go along with a 3.97 20-yard shuttle. Fantastic speed and elite change-of-direction metrics.
Glad to see all that hard work he’d put in prepping for Combine testing pay off 🙌

Kansas TE Jack Utz and Rockhurst HS OL James O’Farrell (a Cornell 🏈 commit) performing backwards sled drags.

Our go-to for athletes dealing with patella pain the sled drags, as long as they’re loaded HEAVY, provide the following benefits 👇

✅Helps to Protect the Knees: Since the sled provides resistance without vertical pressure, it safely loads the quads and patellar tendon. This makes it an ideal staple for both rehab & prehab.

✅No Eccentric Muscle Damage: Unlike traditional squats or lunges, backward sled drags are almost entirely concentric. This minimizes muscle soreness and central nervous system fatigue, making them a great option even in-season .

✅Builds Quad Size & Strength: Heavy drags targets the vastus medialis (the teardrop-shaped quad muscle just above the inside of the knee), which is crucial for knee stability and tracking and a key muscle for running fast & jumping high.

Your yearly reminder that hill sprinting, in addition to the obvious benefit to unilateral power output, is basically for sh*tty sprint mechanics, reinforcing among other things;

-Hip Flexion✅
-Foot Dorsiflexion✅
-Reciprocal Arm Swing✅
-Achilles Adaptation✅

Check out the shapes & landmarks from these athletes - regardless of sport, build, or age (that’s a 6 year old in the last slide)

Kansas City TE John Mike Gyllenborg performing Rear Foot Elevated Jump Squats (RFEJS) during the break between OSWs and OTAs.

Compared to the traditional split squat , the RFEJS relies more on rapid force production and elastic/reactive qualities, allowing athletes to train explosiveness with less muscle damage and residual soreness.
This makes them especially useful during in-season training or phases where maintaining freshness and movement quality is critical.
