The gym can be an intimidating place if you’ve never stepped blood in one. Here are some tips to make your time in the gym easier:
1. Hire a trainer. Most gyms have them. If you’re not sure where to start send me a message and I’ll help you.
2. Have a staff member give you a tour of the gym so you know what’s in there. If you’re not sure how to use the equipment another staff member can help you.
3. Go in with a very simple plan. Even if it is a workout of one exercise, go in confidently and do that.
4. Try not to compare. Many people in the gym are not interested in what you’re doing. This is time for you to focus on yourself and your goals.
5. Creative playlist of your favorite music to help you stay positive and energize you
6. Wear your favorite gym clothes so that you know you look like a baddie.

Lack of time in the day is the number one reason that people don’t exercise. As a busy mom, I completely understand that! As a personal trainer, here are some simple ways to make more time in your day to get active (and they don’t involve waking up early!)
1. Use your lunch time: even a 15 minute power walk during lunch counts as exercise and can be energizing.
2. Exercise snacks: take advantage of periods of 3-5 in your day. Do planks, jumping jacks, or dance to your favorite music. It all adds up!
3. While your kids play: take walks with your kids, go to the playground and run laps around it, bring the kids to the pool and tread water. They will benefit from your example!

A weak core is common, especially postpartum or for people who work desk jobs. Here’s what it looks like:
1. A poochy stomach that doesn’t go away with fat loss
2. Poor posture
3. Difficulty in basic lifting and twisting
4. Inequality in the left and right sides while in side plank
5. Inability to hold a plank without overworking the shoulders
You don’t have to live with a loose tummy. All of the exercises on my website are designed to tighten and strengthen this most important set of muscles.

Getting bored while working out can kill your consistency and wreck your goals. It’s also very common! Here are some ways to beat the boredom:
1. Change up your playlist or listen to an audiobook
2. Do your routine in reverse
3. Incorporate planks, sit ups, or pushups into your rest times
4. Bring a friend! Working out with a buddy is the best!

At some point, we decided that a workout has to be at least an hour.. that’s just wrong! Even 20 minutes of exercise can improve your muscular strength, flexibility, and unscrewed your mood!

Check out my website for workouts that are around 20 minutes. you can do them all at home!

The answer is simple: Consistency! The difference between my clients who succeed and those who don’t find success is consistency through time. It’s not spending an hour in the gym six days a week (that wouldn’t hurt you but it’s hard to do); instead, find at least 20 minutes a day to push yourself hard! More time is better, but if you have the mindset that 20 minutes is a success, you’re more likely to stick to your goals!

Group fitness is a great way to stay fit, but it isn’t right for everyone. As a group fitness instructor and a personal trainer, here are some red flags for your favorite group fitness class:
1. You have a preexisting injury: many instructors are respectful and understanding of these issues, but if their workout is pre-planned or if the group is large, your special needs may be neglected.
2. The instructor chooses favorite moves: some instructors only do workouts that only he/she is capable of. You’ll notice the entire class struggling.
3. The vibe is off: you’re made uncomfortable by other participants, you’re ignored by the instructor, there is lots of negative talk and gossip before and after class. Stay away from these environments to protect your sanity!

I made a delicious batch of cinnamon rolls this weekend.. and I ate about 10 of them! They were delicious, but I definitely feel like I’m turning into a cinnamon roll. This sort of thing does not ruin my weight loss progress, and I’m not going to let guilt consume me. The best tactic is to be extra careful (but not crazy!) about my diet this week so I can feel light and strong.

What are some ways that you recover from an overindulgent weekend? Let me know in the comments below!

I have been working diligently over the past couple months to help myself get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. This is less about “ getting my body back” and more about feeling like myself again. If you’ve ever tried to lose a considerable amount of weight, you know that the last several pounds are the hardest. I’m now within 3 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight, but I noticed a couple weeks ago that my weight was going nowhere even though I was being very careful with my exercise and diet. Whenever I’m seriously trying to lose weight, these are the things that help me push pass any plateau and get to my goal weight:
1. Drink my body weight in water: I drink an ounce for every pound. This is the best way to ensure that I’m not holding onto excess water weight. It also prevents me from eating when I’m actually experiencing thirst.
2. Eating more fiber: I add in whole fruits with the skin, chia seeds, and vegetables. I don’t go crazy, however, because that causes GI discomfort. I don’t track my fiber intake- I just go by how I feel.
3. Increase my exercise by 10 minutes more each day: This simply keeps me focused on moving and staying active. 10 additional minutes ensure that I don’t “blow off” or underperform my physical activity. And you already know that I only do fitness that I love!
4. Leave something on my plate at every meal: This is another tactic to keep me focused and isn’t a strong calorie restriction per se. It’s a reminder that I’m cutting back a bit, even if it’s just one carrot or one bite of ice cream.

After a week of doing these things, I lost two more pounds!

What are your best tips for breaking through a weight loss plateau?

🍁 My goals for this month
🍁 Tiny baby! Our daughter continues to delight us. She is three months old and such a beauty.
🍁 All dolled up for date night with my husband ❤️

August was absolutely wonderful! But I’m ready for an even more fabulous September. Fall is my favorite season of the year- I love the crisp change of weather, getting out my sweaters, and seeing the leaves change. I’m slowly and surely working to lose my baby weight, not just for aesthetics, but to feel and move more like ✨myself✨. That means I’m continuing to eat mindfully, drink lots of water, and moving my body intentionally between naps. It’s going to be a great month!

June 5th, I gave birth to our beautiful daughter — the most life-changing, humbling, and love-filled day of my life 💗 I’m beyond grateful for a healthy pregnancy and birth, and now I’m soaking up every moment of this new chapter: motherhood.
Right now, my focus is on healing, not hustling. I’m nourishing my body with protein, staying hydrated, taking my vitamins, and giving myself grace as I recover. I’m not chasing weight loss — I’m prioritizing tissue repair, pelvic floor strength, and a healthy breastfeeding journey for me and my girl. 💧🍼
I’m moving gently, doing core recovery work, and rebuilding strength from the inside out — because this body just did something incredible, and it deserves care and patience.
To all the new mamas: healing is not a race. You’re doing amazing 🤍

Shoutout to my wonderful husband who took these photos and has been the best dad and supporter I could ask for.

31 week pregnancy update:
- I am feeling heavy and round these days and it’s getting harder and harder to tie my shoes. I used to think that pregnant women were exaggerating about such things, but the weight really is a struggle.
- Big meals are a new no no for me. After eating a pair after a large dinner, I was in agony for hours, including in the middle of the night. My stomach is being pressed up into my body, so it is very tiny. Little meals and snacks for me now.
- Some people say that their cats can tell that they’re pregnant, but mine are just as aloof as ever. Still cute though.
- As far as food quality and quantity, I’m choosing incredibly nutritious meals focused on vitamins, fat, protein, and fiber in that order. I’m eating about the same amount as I did pre-pregnancy except with one larger snack per day. Pregnancy for me is not a time of bacchanalian delight, unfortunately.
