It's salmon season along the WOW!

A New Hampshire State Representative and committee chair recently said:
“It is against the law to run over pedestrians. It’s against the law to run bicycles off the road even though it’s sometimes very tempting.”

For the people who walk, bike, and roll on our roads every day — parents with strollers, kids biking to school, older adults crossing the street — this isn’t funny. It’s frightening.

In our new op-ed, Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire explains why this kind of rhetoric is ignorant and dangerous, and what our leaders should be saying and doing instead to keep people safe.

Read and share our op-ed by clicking on the link in our comments - thanks for reading!

If you’ve never walked or biked the WOW to Local it’s never to late to start. We love how many wonderful restaurants, shops, and entertainment are just steps from the trail!

When Kevin Halligan opened Local Eatery in 2012, the landscape of downtown and the Laconia restaurant scene looked very different than it does today. When we purchased Local from Kevin in the fall of 2019, the goal was preservation. We believed then, as we do now, that a year-round farm-to-table restaurant concept is a crucial part of a sustainable local food system. While the restaurant industry is always tough and ever changing, we certainly did not anticipate the pandemic and the long term effects that would bring. Local has weathered everything that has been thrown at it over the years. During our ownership, Local has had a few different chefs running the kitchen. While each of them brought their own vision and talent to the table, Local has stayed true to Chef Halligan’s original vision. Along with that vision has been a core group of employees who have stayed through all the changes, ebbs, and flows over the years because they also believed in that vision of Local. One of those core employees who has been with the restaurant since we purchased it is Seth Wingate. Many of you have had the pleasure of being served by Seth over the years. Seth’s role continues to be as a server but has evolved to include marketing, operations analysis, IT, and so much more. His role has evolved to the point where he is ready to take the next step and take over ownership and operation of Local. Karen and I are thrilled to be able to pass the torch for the care of Local to Seth. We know it is in good hands. We want to thank all of you for your support for Local over the years. We are thankful for the late Chef Halligan’s original vision and for all the chefs, servers, dishwashers, hosts and all of our local partners who have made Local what it is over the years. We look forward to seeing Local continue to be a staple in Laconia for years to come.
