This is a space to be in your body without holding back. To take up the space that’s already yours.

A for big and beautiful bodies. The room, shapes we hold, and the pacing will all be set up to support your bodies movement. With plenty of space to spread out, to move in a way that makes sense in your body, and to stay with yourself as you go.

Many american yoga spaces have been shaped around a thin, white aesthetic, and you can feel that in the way classes are taught and bodies are expected to move. This class shifts that expectation. The practice is built so your body can actually experience it — with room to pause, to notice, to rest.

Led by K**a Tai Mitchell, a yogi with over 25 years of experience, this class draws from somatic practice, breath, and deep rest. K**a Tai teaches in a way that helps people feel their bodies clearly, with space for both movement and stillness.

Join us on Thursdays at 5 PM, beginning on May 21st at Kalamazoo Backyard Yogis.

Happy May friends. Thinking of you always. Hope to have you join us in class soon. You are Good. ☀️

Join us for Ancestor Circles, a 5-Part community offering series facilitated by K**a Tai Mitchell. Over five Sundays, participants will gather in a guided circle focused on reflection, connection, and communal support.

K**a’s work draws from her own spiritual and healing practices and may include guided relaxation, embodiment cues intended to support nervous system regulation, shamanic drumming, reflection, and group sharing.

Because this work is specific to K**a’s personal practice and lineage, we encourage anyone interested to reach out to her directly with questions about the process, expectations, or whether the series is a good fit.

Participants should have an established relationship with spiritual or ancestral healing work and feel comfortable engaging in personal reflection in a group setting. Specifically, engaged in one or more of your four lines of blood and bone.

Questions or registration inquiries: Please contact K**a Tai directly [email protected]

see. honor. respect. advocate. celebrate. The only way we make it? Is by making it together. We have a community member in need of mutual aid. Someone who is so deeply intrinsic to the work we do in this community. Someone so deeply deserving.

Raised funds go directly to recipient. Kalamazoo Backyard Yogis is a fundraiser. We do not keep money from this fundraiser in any way.

a long-time member of this community has reached out and asked for help.

she is a mother and a grandmother, a small business owner, and someone who works full time to support the people around her. she is also someone who consistently shows up for others, volunteering her time and energy to support both her direct community and the greater Kalamazoo community. she is a pillar in ways that many people may not even realize.

right now she needs a reliable vehicle. without it, daily life gets a lot harder very quickly.

she has asked to remain anonymous, and we will respect that. she also shared that she is a Black woman, and that context matters. access to resources, safety, and reliable transportation are not distributed equally in this country, and asking for help is not something she does lightly.

so we are answering that call.

this community has always been about showing up for one another when it matters. we have rallied around people here before, and we can do it again now.

we have started a gofundme to help her secure a reliable vehicle as soon as possible. over the next several months we will also host a few small fundraisers to keep building toward that goal. if you are able to contribute, even $5 helps move this forward.

We are also selling new spring merch on bonfire with proceeds going towards this fund. However you wish to give, it will not be given in vein.

and if donating is not possible right now, sharing this still makes a difference.

let’s show her that the community she has poured into is a community that will show up for her too.
