FINALLY!!!
I’ve been playing like DOG WATER (excuse my language) recently, and today I was worried it would continue at the South Kent County Classic, since I am HORRIBLE (historically) at Brewer (my power is lacking).
Round 1 from the Gold layout started REALLY clean. It helped that there was virtually no wind. I wasn’t getting off the tee well with power, but I wasn’t ever in any real trouble. I gave myself several C2 looks and stayed away from the OB. My only real mistake was an errant run from deep on Hole 15 that landed in between some trees that obstructed my stance which I missed on the comebacker. More unlucky than just bad, and I can live with that. I shot my PB and first time ever in the 50s which was good enough to put me in T2nd place. The new PM Ares was my best disc and best addition to my bag for long range courses.
Round 2 was from the reds, which I MAY have played before, years ago if I did. Played it essentially blind (throwing distance wise) and had to rely heavily on my raptor with the wind really starting to pick up. The leader, Jaden Clark, came out HOT and extended his lead, but I kept my head down and got some strokes back before realizing I was back only one stroke in a two person race as we extended away from the rest of the field. I splashed a crazy 60+ ft putt in a headwind to stay within striking distance on Hole 18, only to follow it up with a “too clean” forehand on Hole 1 which leaked OB. The two stroke swing was too much and I fell short. Had a blast with both cards and it felt good to play well for two rounds at a course that normally has my number.
Thank you Shea for running the best events in Michigan. My Ares and Captain Caliber were the best discs in my bag today.
Bonus + SPOILERS: I got home and watched TEAM CAPTAIN ULI take down the DGPT+ event in Austen 🤯! Congrats El Capitan! So cool to see you get that quality win in your resume after all the years of work. Captain of the best team constructed… EVER! Super happy for him.
