OUR HISTORY: A CENTURY ON THE GREEN
The story of the Jefferson Community Golf Course is a true testament to community spirit and local dedication.
• The Late 1920s Foundation: Ground broke on the course in 1927 as community leaders worked to establish a dedicated playground for local golfers. Following intense land preparation and layout design, the tree-lined fairways officially opened for play between 1928 and 1929, giving Jefferson its first true home for the sport.
• Weathering the Storms & 1943 Reorganization: Like many golf courses built just before the Great Depression, the facility faced uphill financial battles through the 1930s. However, the community refused to let the course fade away. In 1943, a major post-Depression reorganization and formal incorporation breathed new life into the property, securing its future as a municipal treasure.
• Modern Era: Over the decades, the course has evolved alongside the river valley. The addition of a modern clubhouse transformed it from just a sports venue into a true social hub for Jefferson. Today, the City of Jefferson proudly operates the municipal facility, preserving its deep historical roots while providing pristine playing conditions for generations to come.
