Evan Loukadakis of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and Heidi Van Kirk of the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association (SCWBA) briefed Forward Janesville Inc.’s Government Relations Council today on federal and state efforts to address housing affordability.

The presentation included an overview of the federal 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and key provisions of recently enacted Wisconsin housing laws. The discussion centered on how local governments, including the City of Janesville, can put the measures’ tools and guidance into practice to encourage housing development and expand access to affordable housing.

Housing is a key priority for Forward Janesville Inc. As the region’s local home builders association, the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association (SCWBA) is proud to serve as a trusted partner by providing industry expertise and practical insight into legislative and governmental initiatives that support housing development and economic growth.

SCWBA’s advocacy is strengthened by the home building industry’s three-tiered association structure, which connects local associations with the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) at the state level and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) at the federal level. Working together, these organizations played an important role in advancing the state and federal housing measures discussed and in ensuring that the industry’s perspective informed the policymaking process.

As our long time volunteer used to say "It's a beautiful day for a beautiful build" (Tom Griffin). We sure miss Griff, especially on days like today when the weather is perfect and the students are in perfect rhythm. We know he'd be so proud.

Today, we put the right people around the table to build something that matters. Today we worked on finding more solutions to current labor shortages in the residential construction industry.

Administrators, educators, curriculum coordinators, tech school representatives, and residential construction professionals came together at the SCWBA shop to explore what meaningful residential construction education could look like for students all across South Central Wisconsin.

The goal: connect education to demonstrable skills, career readiness, and real opportunity. They key: including teachers in the conversation. The long term plan: real world applicable curriculum that improves employability and strengthens the building industry.

Because preparing the next generation of building professionals starts long before they step on the jobsite.
