A bird flies because it knows it's a bird. It never tries to be a fish.

A fish doesn't attempt to be a dog. It simply lives aligned to what it was created to be.

And a tree? A tree can't uproot itself to chase better soil. It either withers or flourishes based on the environment it's planted in
I've been sitting with this all week.

We thrive when we're where we're supposed to be, doing what we were created to do. That kind of alignment produces a joy no title can hand you and no salary can replace. It's a satisfaction that's hard to explain and impossible to manufacture.

Yet so many of us are like trees searching for the right soil without ever understanding what kind of tree we are.

We chase the decorations. The accolades. The recognition. And we wonder why none of it nourishes us.

I'm grateful to finally be doing what I'm called to do and that indescribable joy can't be taken away from me.

I see so many professionals sensing there's more, but looking in all the wrong places.

Sometimes the answer isn't another promotion or another credential. Sometimes it's quiet time with yourself, learning who God created you to be, loving yourself in a way no one else can, and then stepping out with a boldness that gives others permission to do the same.

As we wrap up this week think about what kind of tree were you created to be and how are you nourishing the 'true' you.

Some goals are meant to be completed. Others are meant to be released.

The goals you set at the beginning of the year were created for the version of you, and the season, you were in then. But as life shifts, your priorities may need to shift too.

Holding onto something simply because you once committed to it isn’t always discipline. Sometimes, the wiser choice is to realign.

I used to think exhaustion was proof of my dedication.
It took me to experience burnout a few times throughout my career to learn the truth: rest isn't a reward for working hardwork, it's what makes the work sustainable.

Rest shouldn't and doesn't require a vacation which flies by too quickly. It requires you to make space for it in your daily life.

Do you feel the subtle shift in the air, the smell and sounds of the new school year is quickly upon us.

Are you dreading your morning commute? Are you already thinking about the heavy traffic, crammed trains and the school buses?

You may have already started to see the “out of office” replies slowing down as staff members quickly trying to soak up what’s left of the summer days.

Summer’s ease is quietly giving way to the reality of the year’s second half.

Whether you’re sending a child off to a first day, launching a graduate into the unknown, standing in a suddenly quiet house, or simply rerouting around those yellow buses, we are all standing at a threshold this month.

I have learned that transitions handled on autopilot cost you. Transitions handled on purpose transform you.

Have you ever had a manager tell you they value you?

Not your work, you!
The person you are and the impact you make on them and the organization.

I can tell you, those conversations have stayed with me forever.
They motivate me in ways I can't fully put into words.

It isn't that I need approval from others. It's that something shifts when someone genuinely sees and values your worth.

Your sense of belonging deepens. Your loyalty grows. The purpose behind what you do and how you deliver it intensifies, because those bonds become the foundation you stand on.

This is why there are certain leaders I would work for again in a heartbeat if they called me tomorrow. That decision wouldn't be driven by pay or title. It would be driven by one thing: they understood my value as a whole person.

I want to leave every leader with this, people don't give their best to those who use them. They give their best to those who see them.

So let me ask you: have you ever had a manager or leader who made you feel truly valued? And just as importantly are you becoming that kind of leader for someone else?

The calendar says one week left in July.
Your heart may already be somewhere else school supply lists, carpool schedules, the mental gymnastics of "how will we juggle it all" come September.

But before we rush into the hustle, let's pause here.

I've come to see August as a season of newness.
Not quite the fresh page of January, but something softer a month where we can still catch the summer breeze, take the trip, linger a little longer at the beach with the people we love.

It's an invitation to rest and to prepare. To exhale before we inhale for what's next.

As leaders, we carry a quiet tension: the pull between who we are at home and who we are at work. And if we're not intentional, one will quietly consume the other.

So my prayer for us this week is that we don't trade our renewal for our to-do list. That we let summer restore us and then step into the fall with renewed focus, not depletion.
