A second chance is not a slogan. It is a ride to work. It is someone showing up on time. It is a supervisor who treats you with respect and shows confidence in you. It is learning a skill that makes you feel proud again.

This is what rebuilding looks like in real life.

Small moments matter. A finished piece. A new technique. A safer way to do the job. We love showing the work because there are real people behind it, learning and improving every shift.

Today, we are proud to shine a light on Sonya Mitchell, our Director of Operations.

Sonya plays a vital role in keeping MAGCOR moving forward every single day. She helps keep our shops running smoothly, works hard to make sure participants feel valued and supported, and helps ensure maintenance needs are handled so operations can continue without missing a beat. The work she does behind the scenes is essential, and the impact of that work is felt across so many areas of our mission.

Strong operations are about more than keeping things in order. They help create stability, consistency, and an environment where people can work, learn, and grow. Sonya’s dedication helps make that possible, and we are incredibly grateful for the care, leadership, and commitment she brings to MAGCOR.

Sonya, thank you for all you do to support this mission and the people behind it. We are proud to celebrate you and the difference you make every day.

Every product made, every class completed, every certification earned tells a bigger story.

It tells the story of someone refusing to stay where they started.
It tells the story of someone learning discipline.
It tells the story of someone discovering they are capable of more.
It tells the story of someone preparing for life beyond incarceration with intention.

At MAGCOR, we are proud to be part of that story. Because this work is about more than programs. It is about people. It is about helping someone build the kind of foundation that can carry them into a different future.
That is the mission. Real preparation. Real growth. Real impact.

At the heart of MAGCOR’s mission is a simple belief. A person’s worst decision should not be the only thing that defines their future.

We believe in the power of preparation.
We believe in classes that challenge old thinking.
We believe in skills that open doors.
We believe in reentry support that helps people return home with more than hope alone.

Every day, this mission gives people the opportunity to rebuild confidence, responsibility, and direction. That kind of work does not just impact one life. It reaches families, workplaces, and communities across Mississippi.

That is why we do it. Because people are still capable of becoming more.

Today is Ashley's Reentry Day, and we could not be more proud.

Ashley's journey is a powerful reminder that change is possible, healing is possible, and a new chapter can begin. Reentry day is more than a date on the calendar. It is the result of hard work, growth, perseverance, and the decision to keep moving forward even when the road has not been easy.

We are incredibly proud of the progress Ashley has made and the strength she has shown along the way. Watching her prepare for this moment has been a reminder of why this work matters so much. Reentry is about more than just going home. It is about stepping into a new season with greater confidence, purpose, and the hop for what lies ahead.

Ashley, today we celebrate you, your growth, and all that is still ahead for you. We are cheering you on as you take this next step, and we cannot wait to see what your future holds.

Shoutout from Melissa Hood!

"I was incarcerated at Flowood CWC for two years. When I went to prison, I lost everything. My clothes, my furnishings, my house. I didn't have an address to parole out to. I didn't even have a ride to get home. Then I net Ms. Anita who works for MAGCOR. She got with her boss and found a sober living house in Tupelo. She contacted Talbot House and arranged to get me a bed there. The day I was released, Ms. Anita showed up and drove me almost four hours to Talbot House. We stopped on the way, she bought me personals, clothes, and food to get me started. MAGCOR also got my birth certificate before I was released. The Monday after I was released, Ms. Caroline from MAGCOR met me at the driver's license place and renewed my driver's license. She also took me to AT&T and paid for my first month's service on my phone. The following week, Ms. Caroline met me at the courthouse and paid for my car tag.

Thanks to the wonderful ladies at MAGCOR and the ladies at Talbot House, I have a chance at a better life. Ms. Anita and Ms. Caroline helped me line everything up and have been a great blessing to me. I thank God every day that they came into my life. Thank you ladies, MAGCOR, and Talbot House."
