🛡️ **BULLYPROOF — WEEK 4: STAND TOGETHER**

Sometimes the most powerful thing a child can hear is, “You're not alone.”

Throughout October, we've been teaching children how to recognize bullying, respond with confidence, and reach the right help.

But there's one more important lesson.

What do we do when we see someone ELSE being bullied?

At AKKA, we believe that developing strong character isn't just about standing up for ourselves. It's also about how we treat others.

Our final BullyProof lesson focuses on four important steps:

🥋 NOTICE— Pay attention when someone is being mistreated, excluded, or targeted.

🥋 CHOOSE SAFE SUPPORT — Look for a safe way to help, without putting yourself in danger.

🥋 GET HELP — Involve a trusted adult when someone needs protection or support.

🥋 CHECK IN — Let the person know they matter and they're not alone.

Standing together doesn't mean confronting a bully or putting yourself at risk.

Sometimes it's inviting someone to join your group.
Sometimes it's sitting beside someone who's been excluded.
Sometimes it's telling a trusted adult what you've witnessed.
And sometimes it's simply asking, **“Are you okay?”**

Small acts of courage and kindness can make a meaningful difference.

Because being BullyProof isn't just about protecting ourselves. It's about helping create a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Our Goal Isn't Just Better Karate... It's Better People

When families first walk through our doors, many believe they're enrolling in karate lessons.

They're right.

But they're also joining something much bigger.

Every technique we teach has a deeper purpose.
Every class has a greater mission.

Our goal isn't simply to produce skilled martial artists.
Our goal is to help develop remarkable human beings.

People who are respectful, responsible, disciplined, compassionate, confident.
and resilient. People who cultivate with themselves Honesty, Courtesy, Respect and Discipline
on the mat and take these into their lives off the mat.
People who make every room they're in a little better because they showed up.

That's why our quote this month means so much.

"I don't just want you to succeed...I want you to EXCEL."

Success might earn another stripe...Excellence helps build a stronger family.

Success may lead to a promotion...Excellence makes you the kind of employee everyone trusts.

Success may help you reach a goal....Excellence shapes the person you'll become for the rest of your life.

Every challenge in class teaches resilience.
Every difficult workout develops perseverance.
Every correction teaches humility.
Every act of respect strengthens character.

These lessons don't stay inside the dojo.

They go home.
They go to school.
They influence friendships.
They strengthen marriages.
They impact future careers.
That's why we care so deeply about how students train.

Not because we're obsessed with perfection....But because we know excellence becomes a habit.

And habits become character.

One day our students may forget who won a tournament.

They may forget how many push-ups they did.

They may even forget what belt they earned at a certain age.

But they'll never forget becoming someone who learned to keep going when things got difficult.

Someone who honored their commitments.
Someone who treated others with respect.
Someone who always gave their best.

That's the kind of success that lasts a lifetime.

And that's why, here at AKKA, we don't just want you to succeed.

We want you to excel—in karate, in life, and in the person you become along the way.

Take care and see you in class
~ Mr Burt 😎🥋🙏

🛡️ BULLYPROOF WEEK 3: REACH THE RIGHT HELP

Asking for help isn’t weakness. It’s mental self-defense.

One of the most important lessons we can teach our children is that they don’t have to face bullying alone.

In this week’s video, Mr. Burt shares how parents can help children develop the confidence to ask for help—and why our responsibility doesn’t end when they do.

🛡️ **BULLYPROOF — WEEK 3: REACH THE RIGHT HELP**

**“I already told someone. Nothing changed.”**

For a child experiencing bullying, those can be some of the most discouraging words to say.

One of the most important lessons we can teach children is that **asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.**

But there's another lesson that's just as important:

**When children ask for help, adults have a responsibility to respond.**

At AKKA, our third BullyProof lesson focuses on four important steps:

🥋 **TELL** — Let a trusted adult know what's happening.

🥋 **EXPLAIN** — Share what happened and what help you need.

🥋 **PLAN TOGETHER** — Work with an adult to determine the next steps.

🥋 **CHECK BACK** — Follow up to make sure the situation is improving.

Children don't need perfect words or proof before asking for help. And if the first adult doesn't provide the help they need, they should know it's okay to reach out to another trusted adult.

**Reporting bullying isn't tattling. It's taking action to protect yourself or someone else.**

And asking for help should never be where the response ends.

Excellence Means Becoming Better Than Yesterday

One of the greatest obstacles to excellence is comparison.

Students often compare themselves to someone who's been training longer.
Parents compare their child's progress to another student's.
Adults compare themselves to younger athletes.

Comparison steals joy. It also distracts us from the real goal.

At AKKA, we don't ask you to become someone else. We ask you to become a better version of yourself. Excellence isn't about being the best in the room.
It's about being better than you were yesterday.

Can you kick a little higher?
Can you focus a little longer?
Can you listen more carefully?
Can you encourage another student?
Can you overcome one more excuse?

Those small victories matter.

Every black belt was once a beginner.
Every instructor once struggled with basic techniques.
Every confident student once felt nervous walking onto the mat.

Progress happens one class at a time. Sometimes you'll improve quickly. Sometimes improvement feels painfully slow.

Both are normal.

The important thing is to keep moving forward. Excellence doesn't require perfection. It requires persistence.

One correction accepted.
One mistake learned from.
One more repetition.
One more class attended.

Eventually those little improvements become dramatic transformation. That's why we celebrate effort just as much as achievement. Because effort is something every student controls.

No one controls natural talent.

Everyone controls attitude.
Everyone controls work ethic.
Everyone controls perseverance.

Those choices shape excellence. The person you become is far more important than the belt you earn.
And every day you choose growth over excuses, you're already succeeding.

More importantly...You're beginning to excel.

Take care and see you in class...

🛡️ **BULLYPROOF — WEEK 2: RESPOND WITH CONFIDENCE**

Knowing what to do and feeling confident enough to do it aren't always the same thing.

When children face bullying or other difficult situations, they may feel nervous, uncertain, or overwhelmed.

That's why we practice.

At AKKA, we teach that confidence isn't about never being afraid. It's about developing the ability to make good choices, even when we feel uncomfortable.

This week's BullyProof lesson introduces four important skills:

🥋 **PAUSE** — Take a moment if it's safe to do so.

🥋 **CHOOSE** — Consider your options.

🥋 **ACT** — Make a safe, confident choice.

🥋 **CHECK** — Did it help? Do you need additional support?

Sometimes confidence means speaking up. Sometimes it means walking away. And sometimes it means asking for help.

**Confidence isn't having the perfect response. It's knowing you have choices.**
