Last year this Bull Elk playing in the mud! 🤣

During late summer and fall, a bull will paw and churn up a wet or muddy spot, urinate in it, roll around, and coat his body and antlers with mud. That gives him a strong scent that helps advertise him to cows and tells other bulls, “I’m here.”

Wallowing also helps bulls cool down. During the rut they’re constantly moving, bugling, chasing cows, and fighting other bulls, so a muddy wallow can be a good place to cool their body.😆
