🐴 PARENTS, SOMETIMES YOU’RE MAKING YOUR CHILD MORE NERVOUS WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT.

Now, before anybody gets their feathers ruffled, hear me out! 😆

I’ve been teaching riding lessons long enough to recognize when a child is no longer concentrating on their horse.

And sometimes, it’s not because they don’t understand what I’m teaching.

It’s because they’re trying to listen to TWO people at once.

Their instructor is telling them one thing, while Mom or Dad is hollering something else from the fence.

And suddenly, that kid who was doing just fine five minutes ago is making mistakes, getting frustrated, and second-guessing EVERYTHING.

Here’s what I think parents sometimes don’t realize…

Your child wants to make you proud.

They want you to think they’re doing a good job.

And when you’re constantly correcting them from the sidelines, some kids start worrying more about disappointing YOU than concentrating on what they’re supposed to be learning.

Now add a nervous parent to an already nervous child…

And we’ve got two people worrying and one poor horse trying to figure out what everybody wants! 😆

Here’s something I wish more parents understood.

When you pay a riding instructor to teach your child, you’re not just paying someone to tell them what to do.

You’re trusting that instructor to help your child learn, make mistakes, solve problems, and develop confidence.

And sometimes, the BEST thing you can do as a parent is simply sit back and let that happen.

Let the instructor instruct.

Let your child think.

Let them make a mistake without five people immediately telling them what they did wrong.

And when they finish their lesson?

Ask them what they LEARNED instead of immediately pointing out what they messed up.

Because confidence grows when kids learn to trust their own decisions, not when they’re constantly worried about everybody else’s reactions. ❤️

Buy the horse.

Seriously. Write the check.

Financially, it's a terrible investment. The truck, the trailer, the feed, the farrier bills, the vet calls, the entry fees—the math will never make sense.

But you aren't investing in a market.

You're investing in her.

You're buying gas station stops for drinks and snacks. You're buying the smell of diesel, leather, and fresh arena dirt. You're buying early mornings, late nights, and the grit it takes to climb back on after a bad run.

Then one day, you'll stand at the gate and watch your little girl take a deep breath, settle into her saddle, and ride into the arena with a confidence you helped build—but can no longer give her.

That's when it hits you.

Our children were never truly ours to keep. God simply entrusts them to us for a little while, asking us to love them, teach them, and prepare them to ride into this world with courage and faith.

One of the hardest parts of being a parent/coach is learning to let go.

It's standing at the mouth of the alleyway, watching your daugher disappear into the arena, trusting the foundation you've built, the horse beneath her, and the Lord above to guide her when she's moving faster than you ever could.

So if you're sitting on the fence wondering whether the empty wallet, the sleepless miles, and all the sacrifices are worth it...

Buy the horse.

Because one day, the trailer will stay parked. The arena lights will go dark. The saddle will hang a little longer between rides.

And you'd give every dollar you've ever earned just to walk beside her to that alleyway one more time.

The days are long.

The years are lightning fast.

Enjoy every ride. 🤍🙏

Summer Horse Camp Session 3 sure was a humid one and we dodged raindrops a bit (is it even summer in Tennessee if the sky doesn’t open up on you out of nowhere?!) but it was another amazing week of memories and new friendships and learning so much! We are so thankful for the campers that return year after year and for the new ones too! We may try to sneak in a fun one day camp in the next few weeks before school officially starts back up… 👀 🐴 ❤️
