Day 2 of more AWESOME learning for our Lead Mentors Kevin Smalley and Farwell E.A.G.L.E.S Doran Maynard, at the Woodie Flowers Conference on the campus of Wayne State University!

Today's keynote speaker —the teacher behind Team 842 from Carl Hayden High School, whose story was featured in the movie Spare Parts. Based on a true story, the film follows four teenagers who, with a shoestring budget and determination, designed and built an underwater robot that went on to defeat top-tier universities, including MIT, in a national competition. A powerful reminder that innovation, teamwork, perseverance, and believing in students can overcome even the biggest obstacles.

Kevin and Doran are excited to bring these lessons home and continue building a culture where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Happy Father's Day from Harrison Robotics! 💙🤖

Today we celebrate all the amazing fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, mentors, and father figures who support, encourage, and inspire our students every day.
Thank you for the countless hours spent cheering from the sidelines, helping with projects, transporting robots, volunteering at events, and believing in our teams. Your guidance, dedication, and support help make our program stronger and our students more successful.
We hope you have a wonderful day filled with family, laughter, and appreciation. Thank you for all you do!

This weekend, lead mentors from Harrison Robotics and Farwell Robotics are attending the Woodie Flowers Conference, spending two full days learning, collaborating, and growing alongside fellow FRC and FTC mentors.

With 38 sessions to choose from, some topics included:
🔹 Building a Better Robot
🔹 Taking a Team from Surviving to THRIVING
🔹 Meaningful Outreach
🔹 Team Culture
🔹 Hosting an Event
🔹 Communication Tools for Coaches & Mentors
🔹 Psychological Safety: Why Students Feeling Seen is Important and How to Advocate for Those Still Finding Their Voice'
And many, many others.

We believe that effective mentorship requires a diverse toolkit. This conference provided a dedicated space to explore both the technical and human sides of robotics—from engineering best practices and robot design to building sustainable, ethical, and inclusive team cultures.
It has been an inspiring first day filled with new ideas, valuable conversations, and practical tools that we can't wait to bring back to our students and teams.

The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and Harrison Robotics is ready for an exciting summer filled with learning, teamwork, community events, and plenty of fun. Whether we're sharing robotics with our community, participating in summer programs, or preparing for the upcoming season, we are staying busy. Be sure to watch for us out in the community sharing STEAM and our program.

The Harrison Robotics Program is currently seeking partnerships for our 2026-2027 season. Our program serves students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, providing hands-on experiences in engineering, programming, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Partnership support helps fund robot materials, competition registrations, transportation, team apparel, tools, safety equipment, and educational opportunities for our students. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps make a difference.

We hope you will consider joining the Harrison Robotics Family and investing in the future of our students and community.
