What a summer at Great Island! We’re so lucky to have such a great group of kids in our barn.

A huge thank you to all of our camp counselors and camp leads who helped make this summer such a fun one! We couldn’t do it without you!

We loved getting to spread the fun out over two days and have so many of our riders come enjoy a weekend at the show! So proud of this crew and all they accomplished in & out of the ring. ✨

🐴 New England Morgan Week is Here! 💙

Just a reminder that Great Island Riding Academy will be closed for regular lessons July 20–25 while our team is away at the New England Morgan Horse Show!

We’re so excited for an incredible week and can’t wait to cheer on our Taylor River friends and Great Island graduates as they trot into the ring.

Our campers put their new horsemanship knowledge to the test with a relay race, where teams raced to identify each grooming tool and explain what it’s used for! 📚🐴 ✅

One of our favorite camp activities! 🎨🐴

Our campers turned the horses into artists! Each camper selected paint colors for their canvas, then covered it with a zip-top bag and spread their horse’s favorite treats on top. As the horses licked the treats away, they created one-of-a-kind masterpieces!

No two paintings were alike, making each piece a special keepsake—and the horses were more than happy to help! 🤍🎨🍎

More from Horsemanship Camp – Session 1!

Our campers had the opportunity to learn from our farrier, Caleb Noble, getting a firsthand look at the important work that keeps our horses happy and healthy.

They also practiced identifying the parts of the horse by labeling our very patient teacher, W***y, with sticky notes, took portraits with their favorite horses, and created keepsake horseshoe picture frames to remember an unforgettable week at the barn. 🤍📸🐴

With this week’s extreme temperatures, we’re making a few adjustments to keep our horses and riders safe.

☀️Today’s (Wednesday) lessons are ON! We’ll be focusing on groundwork, horsemanship, horse care, and handling, with the possibility of some saddle time.

☀️Thursday’s lessons will be rescheduled due to the forecasted afternoon heat index of 104–110°F during lesson hours.

☀️Friday’s lessons are still on as scheduled for now. We’ll continue monitoring the forecast and update everyone if anything changes.

Thank you for your understanding, and don’t forget the barn will be closed on July 4th. 🇺🇸

Tiny Trotters Camp 2026 🐴☀️💛

What a fun-filled week with our littlest horse lovers! We loved watching each camper grow in confidence and make new friends at the barn.

This week our Tiny Trotters:
🐴 Learned the parts of the horse with the help of W***y.
🪮 Explored grooming tools and horse care.
🏇 Enjoyed a riding lesson every day.
🎨 Made colorful tie-dye camp shirts.
🌈 Created pool noodle ponies and took them on “trail rides.”
🤎 Made a special keepsake with a horse’s hoof print and their own handprint.

Thank you to all of our wonderful families for sharing your little horse lovers with us. We had the best week and can’t wait to see everyone back at the barn soon! 🐎💕

Great Island graduate Vivian Gove returned to her roots this weekend—and what a return it was!

Before Great Island’s 22 riders took the ring in Saturday afternoon’s Academy Session, Vivian and Must Be Revealed kicked off the weekend in style. On Friday, the pair captured the blue ribbon in the 17 & Under Saddleseat Equitation, topping a field of 12 riders.

They returned to the ring Saturday morning for the championship, where Vivian navigated a challenging pattern to earn the victory pass and a blanket of roses.

Congratulations, Vivian and Denny! 🌹🏆
