More than 80 years of swimming, summer days, lifeguards, laughter and memories.
As we close out the 2026 season, we thought it was the perfect time to look back, from photos of the pool when it opened in the 1940s, to photos from the The Sidey Collection LLC of the pool and its lifeguards through the years, to the incredible staff who wrapped up this season yesterday.
So much has changed over the decades, but so much has stayed the same. Kids still jump off the diving boards. Friends still meet at the pool. Families still spend their summer afternoons here.
We also owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the City of Greenfield’s Public Works staff, who have worked behind the scenes for decades to keep this 80+ year-old pool running, clean, safe and as efficient as possible. It is no small feat, and all of us have benefited from their hard work.
And what a season 2026 has been. We welcomed more than 2,000 additional admissions compared to 2025. Those numbers tell us something: People want to swim. They want a place to spend a summer afternoon with their kids and friends, a place where you can swim, dive, play and enjoy the water.
That’s what makes the Greenfield Municipal Pool special. It’s a classic, no frills required. Just a good pool, good lifeguards, good friends and a community that knows how to enjoy a summer day.
For more than eight decades, this pool has welcomed generations of Greenfield families while also opening its doors to new families and visitors from neighboring communities. We’re proud of that tradition, and we’re excited about its future.
Thank you to our incredible 2026 pool staff, to our Public Works team, and to every family who joined us this summer.
