Greetings Fellow Cowboy Action Shooters!

The 2026 SASS Montana State Cowboy Action Shooting and Wild Bunch Championships is back at the Great Falls Shooting Complex on the Black Horse Shootist’s range in Great Falls this year, July 15-19, 2026. The Bitterroot Buckaroos CAS Club from Hamilton, MT is hosting the shoot this year with Johnny Pinebox and May B. Shecann being the match directors. We are looking forward to a busy, fun-filled shoot and hope you can attend. A Range Officer Training Course (instructed by Crisco) will be held on July 14. Camping on site is available. Of course, camaraderie and friendship are always a part of the whole experience. Round-up your guns and ammo! Our first season matches will be April 18th & 19th with registration at 9:30 a.m. and the Safety meeting at 10:00.

If there are any changes due to weather (it is Montana, after all), we'll let you know Friday afternoon.

It’s time to plan your 2026 Shooting Adventures! Don’t forget to include the SASS Montana State Championship Cowboy and Wild Bunch Shoots on your itinerary! The Bitterroot Buckaroos Old West Shooting and Social Club are hosting the Montana shoots this year which will be located at the Black Horse Shooting Complex just outside Great Falls July 15-19, 2026. An RO Basic Course with the Wild Bunch RO and Cowboy RO additions taught by Crisco will be held on July 14. For more information, schedule, and the entry form, go to www.BitterrootBuckaroos.org . Our September matches will be the 13th & 14th with registration at 9:00 a.m. and the Safety Meeting at 9:30. This is a week earlier than usual as some people are going to the Canyon Walls shoot in Hamilton on the next weekend. Hope to you on the 13th and 14th.

Many thanks to all who attended the Montana State Wild Bunch and Cowboy action Championships held at the Black Horse Shootists Range in Great Falls. Even though it was held on our range many folks from other ranges wrote and conducted the stages. Many thanks to Jonnie Pinebox and May B. Shecan for doing all things Wild Bunch related and to Bodie Camp and Prairie Daisy for the Long range side matches. Thanks to Montana Redeye for writing the main match scenarios. A special thsnks to Fire Opal for handling publicity and the prizes.Also a big thank you to the Black Horse folks for providing the range support and scoring. 👏👏👏 to Jughead, J.E.B.
