✨At Vitesse, we talk a lot about player development. But why?

The whole point of development is to make players better so that, over time, the team becomes better too.
When players learn to recognize space, make quicker decisions, play under pressure, and understand what the game is asking of them, that should start showing up in games.
That is when it gets EXCITING!
The team starts recognizing situations before the coach has to tell them what to do.
And suddenly, games that used to get away from us start going our way!
We absolutely want to win.
We want our players excited to compete. We want them disappointed when they lose. We want them learning how to fight for a result and how to finish games.
However, we do not want to sacrifice long-term development for a shortcut to a win today.
Because when players really learn the game, winning does not have to be manufactured from the sideline.
They learn how to win it themselves.
That is what we are building at Vitesse. 💛🖤🩷

🤩 Vitesse Soccer Has a World Cup Connection!! 🇺🇸⚽

Did you know that USMNT defender Chris Richards attended Vitesse Soccer camps and was coached by Coach Michael Louter?!

We are incredibly proud to see a former Vitesse camper representing the United States on soccer's biggest stage!

As the USA continues its impressive World Cup run, keep an eye out for Chris!

🇺🇸 USA! USA! USA! 🇺🇸

The U.S. Won! And They Looked Different...
Before the World Cup, Mauricio Pochettino challenged the mentality of American soccer:

"Playing soccer is one thing, competing is another....
The American player is disciplined. But with a sense of complacency that isn’t good in soccer. It took us a year and a half to change that mentality."

Then the U.S. went out and beat Paraguay 4-1.
What stood out wasn't just the score. It was the way they played. They looked confident. They attacked with purpose. They took risks. They weren't afraid to make mistakes. It looked like a whole new team. They played with the freedom and joy that so many players lose as they move through the youth system.

Players don't become special because they're worried about rankings, showcases, college recruiting, or making the wrong decision. They become special when they are given the freedom to be creative, the courage to try things, and the confidence to compete!

THAT is what we saw from the USNMT!

The irony is that when players stop worrying so much about outcomes and start focusing on competing, creating, and enjoying the game, the results often take care of themselves.

A 4-1 World Cup win won't change American soccer overnight. But it was a reminder of what is possible when players are allowed to play with freedom, joy, and competitive fire.

That's the game we love.

That's the game we're trying to teach at Vitesse. Let's GO! 💛🖤🩷
