Groundhog Marathon

Groundhog Marathon Groundhog Day Marathon, Half Marathon, World Championship One-Sixth Marathon Then there’s Augustus T. Groundhog, better know as Grand Rapids Gus.

We've all heard of Punxsutawney Phil, the little furry guy in Pennsylvania who comes out, sees his shadow, and declares six more weeks of winter. He’s Phil’s much more interesting cousin. Unlike Phil, who it seems can only see shadows, Gus has much better eye sight and can look at a calendar on February 2 and know that spring doesn’t start for six weeks. Gus suggested that instead of lamenting ove

r six more weeks of winter, we should EMBRACE the cold and snow and do something fun. And so, the Groundhog Day Marathon was born.

A completely snow covered course. 12°F at the start. I wouldn't have it any other way.

For the last fourteen years this race has been a winter tradition. While you can never be sure what you're going to get when it comes to the weather, the one thing you can count on is that it will be worth the trip. You may have bare pavement, or knee deep snow, but either way you're in for a good time.

Thanks once again to Don and the rest of the team for yet another excellent race. Until next year.....

Lost and found: I have some. One pair of Shokz headphones that I know are pretty expensive. That strap with a couple of spikes that someone was looking for just before the start. A couple pairs of various gloves. Somebody left their hoodie and buff on the gear drop table.
Contact Don if you lost something.

1/6 Marathon WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP happens tonight at
6:30PM.

We’re going to be here anyway. So we may as well have a race.
Also, early packet pickup for Groundhog full and half is tonight. Grab your bib, say hello, and cheer our Moonlight Runners on.

A few things that matter:
• Consider screws in your shoes or YakTrak
• Dress warm. You're doing loops this weekend so you can drop stuff off as you come around.
• If you're running tonight, bring a headlamp. It's dark.

Consider it a winter journey. We’ll be out there with you!
