Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this shelter house welcomed skiers during Loveland's earliest years. Nearly 90 years later, the spirit of those early days is still part of what makes Loveland special.

Here's to the people who built the foundation—and to the generations of skiers who've kept the tradition alive.

Long before chairlifts, the Snowboat, pulled by an Oliver tractor, carried skiers uphill. Also known as the Boat Tow, it played an important role in Loveland's early history and helped introduce generations of skiers to the mountain.

It's amazing to see how far lift technology has come while our passion for skiing remains the same.

As America celebrates 250 years, we're reminded of the traditions that have stood the test of time. This photo shows Lift 1, where Chet's Dream now carries skiers and riders to the top.
