What a start to a week!! Competition at neighboring ABasin, only 9 miles away, with IFSA venues ranging from U12 and Juniors to 1* Adults to 4* Challenger events. It is one of the toughest, and one of the country’s finest venues for Big Mountain skiing. Being so close, it offers us the opportunity to train and prepare for events all over the country. Having this in the backyard leads to us crushing it on the podiums. This seasons venue was different this year for sure, and was very rocky and steep. We had 16 athletes competing with a multitude of weather and snow conditions each day. Challenging to say the least. So proud of the families making the mid-week competition happen for our athletes. Special shout out to the athletes for their hard work both in training before the competition, and day of. The travel days paid off and the results showed!

With our Loveland Big Mountain comps still rallying through the weekend, it’s hard to believe last week was spent down South in Taos, New Mexico. This was a 2*, and 3* IFSA National event that athletes had to qualify for. So with that, congratulations to athletes Huxley M, Thomas G, Gavin S, Hollis B, Mary H and Eli M. The desert ski area proved to be challenging with the majority of lines littered with rocks and ice. It was a no-fall-zone situation dropping into the venue, and you all should be proud having the courage and confidence to ski at that level. We are so proud of where this team is heading and what great results where achieved over the three days. Special shout out to Huxley M for making the cut for the Junior Freeride Champs in Kicking Horse, BC as a first year U15. He is the first Freeride athlete to achieve this representing Loveland Ski Area and LSC! However, sadly, he’ll have to sit this one out due to a fractured femur and torn calf muscle at training. He’ll be back before we know it!

U15 Men: Huxley M 4th, Gavin S 18th, Hollis B 20th
U15 Female: Mary H 7th
U19 Male: Eli M 28th

The Big Mountain team had the incredible honor of celebrating Susan Corrock Luby, Olympic bronze medalist from the 1972 Winter Games, during our Mountain Mentor Day at Loveland Ski Area. A very special part of the program.

Susan’s journey—from passionate young skier to standing on the Olympic podium—continues to inspire generations of athletes. Having her share stories, wisdom, and encouragement with our young freeride skiers was something truly special. Her humility, dedication, and love for the mountains reminded everyone why we do this sport.

Moments like today show the power of mentorship in skiing. When athletes can learn directly from someone who has lived the dream at the highest level, it creates inspiration that lasts far beyond a single ski day.

A huge thank you to Susan for spending time with our athletes and giving back to the ski community. Your legacy continues to shape the next generation of skiers.

One week of mountain bliss - skiing Crested Butte with the whole Big Mountain Freeride team. Only 30+ inch base, and rain to the summit, the conditions were as tough as it gets for the athletes. We had ourselves a time!! Starting with the U12 competition for two days. Then into the newly opened terrain off the T bar “Hawks Nest” for the U15 and U19 competitions. The days were full of focus, steep skiing fundamentals and a great freeride experience day for the non competitive athletes as well. Thanks all who were involved, and congratulations to athletes who participated!!
