Learn to Ski Co Learn how to ski before you even arrive at the slopes. Maximize your time on the mountain ✨

17/03/2026

Ski lessons can only help after you’re already at the mountain.

Most beginners struggle before they arrive, with things like:
✨ What gear to rent or buy
✨ How to get the right lift ticket or lesson
✨ How early to arrive
✨ What to pack
✨ How to prep their body (and their mind)

Being prepared can make the difference between a fun first day and a stressful one.

That’s why we created the Couch to Green Run Program. It helps beginners feel prepared before their ski trip even starts.

The best beginner ski resorts in Colorado:

If you’re learning to ski, these are the best ski resorts in Colorado for beginners.

1. Loveland Ski Resort: Loveland is one of the easiest places to learn and is also really easy to access. Parking is simple, lift tickets are cheaper than most Colorado resorts, and Loveland Valley is a completely separate beginner area so you’re not surrounded by advanced skiers.

2. Copper Mountain: Copper is known for its naturally divided terrain by ability level. The West Village at Copper is particularly great for beginner skiers as it has a lot of great green runs all in the same area and is easy to navigate.

3 Winter Park: Has a great deal for beginners. They sell a “Learn to Ski” package that includes a lift ticket, rental, and half day lesson for a great price.

4: Eldora: Eldora is the closest major ski area to Denver, and you can avoid I-70 traffic. It has a magic carpet, good green runs, and the easy access makes it a great place for a first day on skis.

5. Beaver Creek: Has a great beginner setup. There’s actually a gondola that goes directly to the beginner area, so you don’t have to mess with chairlifts. It’s farther from Denver and a little pricier, but the learning experience is great.

6. Aspen Buttermilk: Is the beginner mountain of the four Aspen mountains, and has terrain designed for learning.

If you’re learning to ski as an adult, we created a program that teaches you everything before you even get to the mountain.

Parking might seem like a small detail, but it can get expensive, add commute time to get to the ski lifts, and make lugging gear around more challenging.

These Colorado resorts make it easier to park and get on the snow.

The most common mistakes that beginner skiers make:

❌ Leaning back. “Getting in the back seat” is a SUPER common mistake. When you’re scared, your instinct is to lean back, but this actually makes you lose control of your skis.
✅ Instead, think about pushing your shins into the front of your ski boot. It might feel weird at first, but it actually will give you move control.

❌ Being afraid of falling (and waiting until they really lose control before they give in to the fall).
✅ Instead, view falling as part of the process! It’s completely normal. It’s also better to lean into the fall if you’re starting to lose control, versus continuing to get even more out of control.

❌ Having the wrong gear. Being uncomfortable, cold, and wet is never fun for anyone.
✅ Instead, do a little prep and get the right boots, clothes, and equipment that will keep you on the slopes having fun.

I wish someone had told me these 5 things when I first started skiing as an adult:

1. Avoid learning from impatient people. It’s just not worth it.

2. Familiarizing yourself with the resort map will help prevent anxiety.

3. Prioritize gear that will keep you warm, dry, and comfortable, especially boots.

4. Give yourself permission to be a beginner!

5. Falling is completely normal. Embracing falling as part of the process will only make you a better skier.
