The Brunswick Sport Triples league is New England's longest-running winter SportBowling league. Starting as a doubles league in 2003, this season marks the league's 23rd consecutive year of offering bowlers an alternative to the modern out-of-control scoring environment that does little to prepare bowlers for the tournament season and tougher lane conditions. Contrary to the beliefs of many, this
league is NOT just for bowling's elite bowlers. While it is true that the higher-average bowlers may have more to gain from bowling on tougher patterns - in part due to their skill level and work ethic - new and/or handicap bowlers have plenty to gain from this type of league also. Will bowling in this league turn a 180 average bowler into a 220 average? Highly doubtful ... not unless you're some kind of bowling prodigy. What you get out of this league will be exactly what you put into it. If all you do is complain, don't expect much of an ROI... so check your attitude at the door. Your average IS going to take a hit ... quite possibly, a big one. But that's NOT why you're joining this league, right? You're joining for reasons like:
o Teaching yourself to stay calm and focused when lanes are tough
o Teaching yourself the value of spares, and how to shoot them
o Teaching yourself to play different parts of the lane
o Teaching yourself to keep your head steady and see your target
o Teaching yourself to repeat shots
And even if you are NOT in it to improve your game, here's a little-known fact for you competitive handicap bowlers out there... SportBowling leagues provide better competition for you. Despite having a handicap, a stacked team of 220 average bowlers on a typical house shot has a huge advantage. The difference between their averages and an "average" bowler's average could be up to 40-50 pins per bowler, easy. Put those same two teams in a SportBowling league, and the gap shrinks - usually quite significantly - helping to level the playing field. So if you're competitive and you're thinking "I'm not good enough for that league," think again. The Brunswick Sport Triples leagues bowls Thursday nights at 6:45pm. We typically start in late August and bowl 34-36 weeks, depending on holidays. The league is split into three equal-length rounds, each featuring Sport patterns of varying lengths that are drawn at random before the start of the season. Patterns from several bowling organizations are included in the lottery, including:
o PBA
o PWBA
o Kegel
o USBC OC
o USBC Masters
o USBC Queens
o US Open
o US Women's Open
Each round consists of three different oil patterns split into 3- or 4-week blocks: 1 short pattern, 1 long and 1 medium. The league has several jackpots - some scratch, some handicap:
o Progressive Jackpot
o Mystery Score Jackpot
o High scratch game of the week
o High scratch series of the week
o High hdcp game of the week
o High hdcp series of the week
o $100 Match Point Champions Roll-Off (Hdcp)
o $100 SportBowler of the Year Roll-Off (Scratch)
o $100 SportBowling Team Championship
