ELCF is located down the road from my home. My neighbor, described it as an intense program, which is right up my alley! As an amputee with knee and shoulder impairments, I had been looking for adaptive strength training that would safely prepare me to ski bike with my grandson. Fortunately, is an experienced CrossFit instructor and judge who develops alternative moves specific for my disabilities. Through her guidance, I’ve managed to successfully ski bike in Colorado with my grandson for the past four years. It’s been an amazing experience!

People may not know: Skiing has been my life’s passion. When a 2012 bicycle/truck crash took my left leg, I sold my skis. By 2019, my grandson began skiing and I wanted to be there with him. That’s when I started adaptive skiing with Michigan Adaptive Sports and advancing to adaptive lessons in Colorado at Winter Park and Steamboat. It was an uphill battle until I began CrossFit in 2022. Candace enabled me to gain the strength to maneuver a ski bike proficiently. My experiences eventually led to the ultimate feeling I used to have while skiing with two real legs, it was remarkable! Now that I’ve reached my goal, it’s time to hang up my ski bike. My vulnerability to further injury on the slopes is too great.
This writing has forced me to evaluate the importance of CrossFit going forward. Not only has it prepared me to conquer the slopes, it has given me the strength for other activities on the ground!
Going forward, my CrossFit goal is to continue with overall strength training and building to a Clean and Jerk movement.
