The Cristian Korte Memorial Swim Fund helps provide financial assistance for swim lessons through recreation and aquatic centers across the region—including Durango, Ignacio, Farmington, Cortez and other Southwest Colorado communities.

Designed to support qualifying low-income families, this fund ensures more kids have access to life-saving swim skills, confidence in the water and opportunities to stay active. Because swimming isn’t just fun—it’s a life skill.

Construction on the Animas River Trail that will eventually include replacing Demon Bridge behind Durango High School is underway on the trail section between Rank and Memorial parks. The project will continue through 2027.

Upgrades include replacing the failing asphalt surface with a new 10-foot-wide concrete path, new trail lighting, and new landscape features, as well as improvements to the spur trail connecting Rio Vista Circle. The new bridge will be wider than the current one, with smoother abutments, and the height will meet waterway freeboard requirements.

The trail will remain OPEN during this time with some detour routes that may shift periodically based on construction activity.

Keep up with updates to this project through Engage Durango: engage.durangoco.gov/animas-river-trail-improvements
