Most people focus on Aidan Hutchinson when discussing Detroit’s defense.

CBS Sports believes Alim McNeill could be the Lions’ biggest under-the-radar breakout candidate entering 2026.

Before his ACL injury, McNeill was developing into one of the NFL’s most disruptive interior defenders. In 2023, he earned elite grades as both a run defender and pass rusher while recording five sacks from the defensive tackle position.

The injury slowed that momentum.

Although he returned during the 2025 season, it was clear he was still working his way back to full strength.

Now, another year removed from surgery, the Lions are hoping to see the dominant version of McNeill return.

At just 26 years old, he remains one of the most physically gifted defensive tackles in football. His ability to clog running lanes, collapse pockets and demand double teams could completely change Detroit’s front seven.

And if McNeill returns to peak form, life becomes even easier for Aidan Hutchinson on the edge.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is already excited about what Greg Dortch can bring to Detroit.

The Detroit Lions added Dortch this offseason, and St. Brown says he has always respected his game from afar. He praised Dortch’s craftiness, competitiveness, route movement and understanding of football.

That fit matters in Detroit.

Dortch is not coming in as a headline addition, but he gives the Lions a versatile receiver who can contribute on offense and special teams.

Last season in Arizona, he caught 29 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Over his NFL career, he has produced 145 receptions, 1,310 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He also brings experience in John Petzing’s offense after spending the past three seasons with him in Arizona.

With Kalif Raymond now in Chicago, Dortch could also become Detroit’s primary punt and kickoff returner.

For the Lions, this is the type of move that may not look huge in June.

But it could matter a lot once the season begins.
