One of our former players, Sebastian, has been through something no young person should ever experience. After being detained by ICE for three long, painful months, he was sent to Venezuela last week with almost nothing. When I spoke to him, he told me they only allowed him to take a single pair of jeans and a flannel shirt. Everything else—every piece of his life here—was left behind.

A GoFundMe has been started to help him get the medical care and personal essentials he desperately needs right now. If you knew Sebastian, you know he’s the kind of kid who deserves the absolute world—kind, hardworking, and full of heart. It breaks me to see him go through something like this.

Full‑circle moment 🌟

I coached Kevin Padilla for nine years—starting when he was a nine‑year‑old on the Southwest Aztecs Baseball Team. Since then, our paths never stopped crossing: elementary school, middle school, high school, college… and now we both work at Walbridge.

Coaching isn’t just about game days. It’s about showing up consistently and helping shape young people into better teammates and better people.

Kevin has always been the kid who wanted more and was willing to work for it. Today, he’s a sophomore at Wayne State with a 3.7 GPA, pursuing engineering.

Next summer, he’ll get his first experience in the workforce—and I’m proud that it’ll be with Walbridge. Watching someone you’ve mentored become a colleague is special. It’s a reminder that consistency, community, and opportunity truly make a difference.

Here’s to Kevin—and to every coach, mentor, teacher, and teammate who keeps opening doors. 👏
