📣 Formally announcing our newest competition cheer coach!!! Give her a warm AstroCheer welcome 💫

Hey there! I’m Coach DeDivitis — Coach D for short! 💫
I’m so excited to be joining the AstroCheer family and getting to know each and every one of our cheerleaders!

My love for cheer started way back in kindergarten, and I’ve been cheering for most of my life ever since! I’ve had the opportunity to cheer competitively, on school teams, and simply for the love and fun of the sport. 📣💜

Most recently, I cheered on an adult team, Chicago Spirit Brigade, before moving to DeKalb, where I’ve spent the past 5 years coaching and sharing my love of cheer with the next generation.

Outside of cheer, I’m an elementary school counselor in the DeKalb school district, where I’ve even had the opportunity to start a cheer team with my students! I love finding ways to help kids build confidence, try new things, and discover what they’re capable of. ✨

I also call DeKalb home, where I live with my dog, Chip, who happens to know quite a few tricks himself! 😉🐾

What I love most about cheer is the energy, spirit, friendships, and FUN that come with it. There’s nothing better than seeing an athlete’s face light up when they finally nail a new skill they’ve been working toward. That moment is what makes coaching so special to me. 💜🩵

I’m so excited to be part of AstroCheer and to cheer on, encourage, and celebrate our athletes every step of the way! 💫

Up next on meet our competition cheer coaches is Coach Emily! 💫

Get to know our AstroCheer & AstroFlipz Coaches 💫

Hi all! I’m Coach Emily! 💜🌟🩵

I’m newer to the cheer world, but I bring many years’ experience working with kids as a swim coach!!! I grew up a competitive swimmer all the way through high school & swam competitively as a US Masters swimmer up until a couple years ago when my 4th daughter was born. Backstroke sprinter 🙋🏼‍♀️

So why & how cheer!? I entered the cheer world just like many new coaches have— because their kids started cheer. Some of the best (and quite decorated) cheer coaches I have met are some who have never cheered a day in their life. All it takes is that spark, and you’re hooked for life wanting to learn & help out!

I’m a single mom to 4 amazing girls, 3 of whom are multi-sport athletes (including softball 🥎 & of course cheerleading! 📣)

I used to be a police officer many moons ago and currently work in big tech. I’m also a 2023-2024 DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy graduate.

In my spare time, I’m also the DeKalb rep for the Girls on the Run NW IL Board of Directors as well as a coach at my daughters’ school! I’m also once again involved in their school PTO having previously served almost 4 years on that board.

I’m a firm believer in staying involved in your children’s interests. You can learn a lot about your child by helping out behind the scenes! As a coach, I love to help newer cheerleaders learn the foundational basics that will set them up for success later in their competitive cheer journey. It’s also an absolute blast watching athletes learn a new skill & see their confidence just soar! ⭐️

DeKalb County has so much potential when it comes to cheerleading, and I am so excited to be part of this journey in making cheer become a household name here.

And with that, I’m so glad you’re joining us here at AstroCheer!!! Get ready for some amazing things to come! 💫

Hey everyone!!! I’m Coach Alyssa ✨
I’ve been flipping, tumbling, and cheering for 25 years… basically since my first viewing of Bring It On 📣 And yes, I can still throw a backflip 😏

My cheer journey started at 9 when I didn’t make gymnastics team.... spoiler alert: I wasn’t bad, I just needed the right place to grow! I started tumbling at my local dance studio (sound familiar?) in my hometown of Pembroke, New Hampshire.... It was there that I learned my back handspring & tuck, made lifelong friends, and found both cheer and my confidence.

I cheered the next 15 years...through middle school, high school, college, and all-stars.... winning a National Championship in 2009, my freshman year at SCSU!!

A few years later I found myself living in Chicago (and betting my die-hard Cubs fan husband on the World Series 😉)! We moved to New Hampshire in 2017, where I coached Pembroke Academy Varsity Cheer, my former high school, to 6 state championships in 7 seasons, all while becoming a mom to my two girls (now 5 and 7 👯‍♀️)!

In 2021, my family moved to Dekalb and at some point in 2024, after many late nights Googling “cheer for kids nearby,” I found DYFL Jr. Barbs for my girls and began coaching the 5th–8th grade team. Since 2024, DYFL has earned two Regional banners, brought three teams to Nationals, and celebrated 4th- and 5th-place National finishes... missing first by less than 5 points. ❤️‍🔥

That was my final “it’s time” moment. 💜🩵

So we created AstroCheer 💫 & AstroFlipz 💫 at Dimensions Dance Academy to be place for kids to cheer year-round, grow their tumbling, build confidence, and make lifelong friends.

I want every athlete to feel the confidence of knowing they can do hard things at any moment… like throwing a backflip. 🤸‍♀️

National titles? Maybe someday. 🥇🏆

Confidence, friendships, and celebrating every skill along the way? Without a doubt. 😍🔥
