Speaking as a Advil depleted RD I'll perhaps take a moment in the aftermath to tell you that if runners, their families and community don't engage with legacy community races as volunteers and advocates, these boutique events will fade away as mere memories and tee shirts in a drawer.

A mere six days in the wake of the Boston Marathon, the fastest Masters runners from across the nation will travel to the small town of Dedham outside of Boston, MA on Sunday, April 26. They are attracted by the chance for glory at the 2025 USATF Masters 10 Km Championships hosted by Martin Hanley’s James Joyce Ramble. This will be the twelfth consecutive running of these championships at the 41 year old Ramble. It is remarkably the USATF’s longest-standing active Masters Championship in history
Perry Jenkins, Chair of the USATF Masters Long Distance Committee and long-time Coach at the University at Buffalo, affirmed “The Committee is delighted to return to Dedham for these championships. Our athletes enjoy the environment. Not only is the race highly competitive, but the entire weekend also provides an opportunity for athletes to meet each other at the lodging establishments in the area and pour into the local eateries and watering holes. What makes Masters Championships so special is the camaraderie. Athletes from California, Colorado, and Michigan meet up and celebrate with their rivals from New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Georgia. We hope that the Ramble and the Town of Dedham invite us back for many years to come.”
Dedham takes its place alongside Atlanta GA, Tacoma WA, the Jersey Shore, and San Francisco’s East Bay, among others, in hosting a championship of the USATF Masters National Grand Prix. Last year two American Records were set at these championships, not to mention several course records. Athletes know what to expect. The weather most years is perfect us from good to excellent for a 10 Km race seeking national distance records to be broken. Kirk Larson, Team Captain of the Men’s 70 and up team from the Atlanta Track Club sums up the views of so many of the athletes: “The competition and the course are terrific. I love Dedham!”
The presenting sponsor is Total Wine & More with additional support by Frank Walley Insurance, A Tent for Rent, Café Fresh Bagel, Noble & Greenough, Poland Springs, The Dedham Times, Blue Bunny Book Store, Amnesty International, PEN, International and Marathon Sports.
Important note: For the first time this year runners will be able to pick up their number and tee shirt or register at the new Dedham Marathon Sports, 402 Washington Street on Thursday at noon till close and all day Friday. New registrations will be accepted until 4 pm Saturday while everyone preregistered should go to the Endicott Estate from noon until 5 pm as in prior years.
There will also be the very popular NorthStar Ramble kid’s dash across the back lawn hosted by Children’s book author Peter Reynolds on the back lawn of the Estate in the morning before the race
Most all information is at ramble.org and volunteers are encouraged to email [email protected] if they could volunteer just two hours of their time to make the 41st James Joyce Ramble a continued success or call 781 367 7103

Sad to hear of Bob Hall's passing. He was the relentless force in the eighties who brought wheelchair racing into respectability and prominence in all major marathons throughout the world.. He was an inspiration to the disabled who dreamed that there was a place for them in competitive athletics.
We hope he's rolling the heavenly hills with our friend Jack Coakley and sharing some stories.
