The C.N.M.I and much of Micronesia has been immensely impacted by this disaster Super Typhoon Sinlaku. They’ve endured many super typhoons and barely recovered from Mawar 2023, Yutu in 2018, and Soudelor 2015. Sinlaku hit in 2026 and has been the absolute most devastating to the islands. Raging to winds over 150mph, it tore through the islands for more than 30 hours. Infrastructure is not as advanced, many homes not made of cement were obliterated and many families lost everything.
I’ve grown up here, this is my home. My family still resides and the people are resilient but even though we are part of the U.S. resources are scarce because of distance. Deliveries are limited and few and restricted. Basic needs like power, and water were shut off.
As a Native Chamorro, i’m so passionate to come together with people of DFW to help my home and those affected. On the islands it’s not just native Chamorros. Many residents include Filipinos, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, American, Micronesian, and many more. For AAPI month it only makes sense to do something to help ALL people that need it in the Marianas. As we say in the islands Si Yu’us Ma’åse, let’s get strong together by sculpting with Kaylianni and Gabriella two powerhouse sculpters in the AAPI community in local DFW. Marianås Strong!
