Sometimes I am not sure parents fully understand what they have registered their child for.

Yes, they registered them for dance.

And, of course, their child is going to learn to dance. They will learn steps, terminology, technique, and how to perform.

But that is only one piece of what is really going on.

They may have just discovered the place where they belong.

Every week, they walk into a studio where people know their name and are happy to see them. They find a group of friends to dance with, laugh with, and grow up with.

They get to lose themselves in the music and movement.

And for a little while, they are away from their phones, electronics, social media, and all the noise that has become part of growing up today.

They are also surrounded by teachers, mentors, and leaders who can become important voices in their lives.

A dance teacher can see something in a child before that child sees it in themselves. Sometimes it is confidence. Sometimes it is courage. Sometimes it is simply the belief that they are capable of more than they thought.

I have been trying to get this message out to parents for years.

Dance changes lives.

I have seen shy children learn to stand in front of a room. I have watched children struggle with something, become frustrated, and discover that they could keep working instead of giving up.

I have watched friendships begin in dance studios and last for decades.

I have watched children grow up with teachers who believed in them, challenged them, and helped them find their voice.

And so many of the lessons do not become clear until years later.

Parents think they registered their child for a dance class.

What they may not realize yet is that they have given their child another place to grow up.

That is what dance can be.

Patsy’s former students. Not because they all became professional dancers.Most of them didn’t.

They became nurses, teachers, parents, entrepreneurs, artists, accountants, business owners, and a hundred other things.But somewhere inside those adults is still the child who stood at your barre. The child who learned how to walk into a room with confidence. Who learned how to take a correction without giving up.

Who learned how to work with other people, show up prepared, perform when they were nervous, and keep going when something didn’t come easily. And every once in a while, one of them comes back. All the time they tell me they danced at Music In Motion Dance Studio in the 80s & 90s or at Patsy’s (name change) starting in 1996 on Monroe Avenue. Maybe they tell you they still remember something you said when they were 12. Something you probably don’t even remember saying.

That’s when you realize what this job really is. The trophies eventually collect dust. The people you helped shape go out into the world. That may be the greatest legacy a dance teacher can have. I am so blessed to have been a small part of a child’s life over the 43 years of owning the dance studio & so many are now bringing their children to our family-oriented dance studio.

We cannot wait to see everyone the week of Labor Day.

Altho several of our classes are full, we still have openings in the following classes that will start Tuesday. September 8th at Patsy’s. Please register online soon. For those parents who have registered, invoices are going out on August 27th for the September monthly fee.

As we get closer to September 8th, the 1st day of classes, I am getting all the dance, tumbling & cheer classes scheduled with the students who have registered. I am happy that some classes are full but we are able to schedule more classes & instructors. The instructors have their scheduled day to teach & we will meet soon to finalize everything.

We still are interested in offering cheer with Addie Holesapple. She is so excited to teach & the cheer students will have the best time during her classes. The cheer classes by age are on the website enrollment form. Don’t wait any longer. Enroll, so we can get in touch with you with a day/time/fee. She is planning to include baton twirling in the cheer class. Enroll NOW. We want to start classes the same week as dance & tumbling.

Invoices will go out on 27th of the
preceding month starting August for payment due the 1st class of the following month & no later than the 15th of the month to avoid a $10 late fee.

Team Reach is mine & the instructors communication method to get information out to each parent/grandparent. If you have enrolled for 2026-2027 season, you should have been asked to join. If not, please text Patsy at 540-691-6022.

Everyone at the studio is anxious to get back to class & see all the students socializing & having fun.
