Why compete in a CrossFit competition?

Not because you have to be the strongest person in the room.

Not because you’re chasing a podium.

Because sometimes it’s good to do something that makes you a little nervous.

To test yourself.

To trust your training.

To work with a teammate.

To hear people cheering for you when things get hard.

And to walk away knowing you were capable of more than you thought.

The workouts are part of it.

The memories, confidence, community, and “holy crap, we actually did that” feeling are the rest. 💙

That’s why we compete.

ONLY ONE spots is left for our Master's Competition (the Fall Foliage Fitness Classic). Link is in our bio to sign up!

People often think CrossFit changes your fitness.

It does.

But that's rarely what people talk about when they've been here for a while.

They talk about the friend who texted them when they missed class. The coach who believed in them before they believed in themselves. The first time they did something they never thought they could. The confidence that followed them outside the gym.

Those are the things no one really warns you about.

To everyone who's been part of our community—whether you've been here for years or just walked through the door for the first time—thank you for making Swift River CrossFit what it is.

What would you add to this list? 👇

"Feeling strong enough now to do the bumper boats twice, once with each great-nephew. Before Swift River, I would have been on the sidelines watching it, not living it… so thank you is too little to say."
— Debbie 💙

This is the kind of progress that means the most.
Not just lifting more weight or finishing a workout faster.
It's having the strength and confidence to jump in, participate, and fully live the moments that matter to you.
Debbie is the one who keeps showing up, doing the work, and building that strength.
Our job is to give her the coaching, support, and right level of challenge to help her keep moving forward.
And seeing that work show up in moments like this?
That's what it's all for. 💙

**SAVE THIS RECIPE 🥘**

If you have a spaghetti squash sitting on the counter and you’re not sure what to do with it, make this.

This **Cheesy Chicken Spaghetti Squash Bake** keeps the squash front and center, adds rotisserie chicken for easy protein, and uses cottage cheese to make the sauce creamy without loading it up with tons of cheese.

The biggest tip: **don’t overcook the squash.**

**Bare-bones recipe:**

1 large spaghetti squash
3 cups shredded rotisserie chicken
3–4 cups spinach
1 cup cottage cheese
1 cup sharp cheddar, divided
1/4 cup Parmesan
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 Tbsp flour
1/2 small onion
2 cloves garlic
Garlic powder, onion powder, salt + pepper

**How to make it:**

Cut the spaghetti squash in half, scoop out the seeds, brush lightly with olive oil, and place cut-side down on a baking sheet.

Roast at **400°F for 30–40 minutes**, starting to check around 30 minutes.

You want the strands **just tender**, not super soft.

Scrape out the squash and let the strands drain for 10–15 minutes.

Blend the cottage cheese, milk + broth until smooth.

Sauté onion, garlic + spinach. Stir in the flour, then add the cottage cheese mixture.

Stir in 1/2 cup cheddar + Parmesan.

Fold in the rotisserie chicken and spaghetti squash.

Transfer to a casserole dish, top with the remaining cheddar, and bake at **375°F for 20–25 minutes**.

Done. 🙌

This recipe is part of the **Swift River CrossFit x Davis Natural Produce** summer recipe partnership.

One of the best parts about CrossFit isn't that everyone does the same workout...

It's that everyone gets a workout that's right for them.

Some days you're chasing a PR.

Some days you're rowing with one leg on a skateboard because your knee needs a break.

Both count.

One of our favorite things as coaches is helping members find a way to keep moving—even when life throws them a curveball. Whether you're recovering from an injury, getting back into fitness after time away, or just having an "off" day, there's almost always a way to modify the workout so you can keep making progress.

And if you can laugh through it with your gym friends?

Even better. 💙

Fitness isn't about being perfect. It's about continuing to show up, one workout at a time.

It's the friend who notices when you miss class.

The coach who asks how your weekend was.

The person who saves you a spot during the warm-up.

Accountability isn't about guilt.

It's about knowing someone is excited to see you succeed.

That's why community matters.

It's also why so many people finally build consistency after joining a gym.

Because showing up for yourself gets a whole lot easier when other people are cheering you on.

💙

A lot of people think coaching is about correcting technique.

That's certainly part of it.

But the best coaches do something much bigger.

They build confidence.

They help people see progress before they see it themselves.

They know when to challenge you...
and when to simply remind you that you're capable.

One of our favorite compliments is when members tell us they accomplished something they never thought they could.

That's not an accident.
That's coaching.

💙 If you've never experienced coaching like that, we'd love to meet you.

National Dog Day: Swift River Edition 🐶💙 — Part 2

Apparently our members’ dogs have been paying VERY close attention to what happens at the gym. 😂

Some specialize in muscle-ups.

Some prefer odd-object carries.

Some are built for shuttle runs.

And some have mastered the most important movement of all:

looking cute for time.

We couldn’t fit every single dog photo we received, but we did our best to feature as many of these very serious athletes as possible. 💙

Thank you to everyone who sent pictures in — this might be one of our favorite posts of the year!!!

Now the important question:

Which dog are you choosing as your partner for a WOD? 👇🐾

National Dog Day: Swift River Edition 🐶💙 — Part 1

We asked our members to send us pictures of their dogs and tell us their favorite “CrossFit movements.”

The results were… extremely scientific. 😂

We’ve got:
🐾 elite lateral jumpers
🐾 bench press specialists
🐾 partner workout pros
🐾 whiteboard brief experts
🐾 and at least one athlete who is VERY committed to scaling appropriately

We had way more submissions than we could fit into one post, so naturally this became a two-parter, and even then we couldn't fit them all!

Swipe through and let us know which one is the most accurate. 👀

Happy National Dog Day to some of the cutest members of the Swift River extended family. 🐾💙
