What’s the deal with chip seal? This cost-effective treatment protects pavement and can add several years to the life of a road.

Chip seal creates a protective coating that helps prevent water from penetrating the pavement, seals small cracks and provides a skid-resistant surface.

AND it costs significantly less than a traditional asphalt overlay!

Remember: Follow posted speed limits and drive with extra care until the loose aggregate has been swept away.

School Bus & School Zone Safety

As a new school year gets underway, I want to remind everyone to slow down, pay attention, and make safety a priority in and around our schools.

When a school bus has its red lights flashing, STOP. Do not attempt to pass the bus. Those flashing lights mean children are getting on or off the bus, and a few seconds of impatience can have life-changing consequences.

Please also remember to:

Slow down and watch carefully in school zones.
Follow posted speed limits and traffic signs.
Watch for children crossing streets and entering or leaving vehicles.
Stay alert for buses stopping to pick up or drop off students.
Put the phone down and eliminate distractions while driving.

Our children are counting on all of us to get them to school and back home safely. Please slow down, be patient, and remember that getting there a little later is always better than not getting there at all.

Let's have a safe and successful school year!

Sheriff Fred Blankenship

Theory is a map, but experience is the terrain.

The young man knows the rules, the old man knows the exceptions. - Charlie Munger

Charlie Munger was the legendary vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and a fierce advocate for multidisciplinary thinking. He famously refused to look at investments through a single lens, instead building what he called a latticework of mental models from chemistry, history, and psychology. Munger lived to the age of 99, and throughout his century of life, he maintained that the most valuable thing an investor or leader could possess was not a high IQ, but a low rate of cognitive errors.

We often mistake the acquisition of information for the development of wisdom. In your early years, you study the frameworks, the protocols, and the best practices. This is necessary, but it is incomplete. Rules are generalities designed for the average situation. Real life, however, is defined by the outliers.

True mastery is the ability to recognize when the standard logic no longer applies. It is the seasoned intuition that tells you a certain project is a trap despite it checking every box on your list. Wisdom is knowing that the exception is often more important than the rule itself.

At what point in your career did you realize a standard rule was actually holding you back?
