A huge congratulations to Shockwave Rugby Academy players Layne Prince #26 and Madison Schell #6 on their selection into the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Team 7's Squad to compete the Australian Schools Rugby National Championships in July.

We love seeing young athletes have their hard work, commitment and effort rewarded with selection into higher-level representative teams.

Talent may open the door, but it is the unseen work that makes the difference — the extra reps after training, the long hours when no one is watching, and the determination to keep improving when the lights have gone out on the field.

Plenty of players have ability. The ones who rise are those willing to do the work their opposition will not.

🏉 Congratulations Sonrae & Layne 🏉

A huge congratulations to former Shockwave Rugby Academy players Sonrae Lui #18 and Layne Prince #26 on their outstanding achievements in rugby.

Layne has been representing the Queensland Reds and Sonrae the ACT Brumbies in the Next Gen 7’s Series. Both played very well and have been recognised with further opportunities.

A special congratulations to Layne, who has been selected in the Australia A 7’s Team to tour Japan in the coming months — an incredible achievement and a well-earned reward for her hard work.

Sonrae is also continuing to push forward, taking part in trial games with the ACT Brumbies as she prepares to potentially play a part in the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific Women’s season.

Both girls are a massive inspiration for all regional Queensland-based players. They are proof that with a positive mindset, strong work ethic, and the courage to keep chasing opportunities, playing elite-level rugby is absolutely possible — no matter where you come from.

Shockwave Rugby Academy is calling for Expressions of Interest from talented and ambitious U18 Girls (in 2027) to be part of an exciting international rugby opportunity in April 2027.

Our selected squad will travel to the incredible city of Hong Kong to compete in the Hong Kong Football Club Youth 10's – one of the world’s most renowned youth rugby tournaments. This is your chance to test yourself against quality international opposition while representing regional Queensland on the global stage.

🏆 Tour Awards – USA 2026 🏆

Congratulations to all of our players who have been recognised following an outstanding tour.

The old coaching cliché of “if everyone could receive an award, you all would” has never been more accurate. Every single player contributed to the success of this tour—on the field through performance, and off the field through the way they carried themselves, represented their families, and represented Shockwave Rugby Academy.

This tour wasn’t just about results. It was about living the standards we talk about every day—discipline, respect, resilience and team-first mentality. Those who have received awards have set the benchmark, but the reality is the entire group upheld what this Shockwave stands for.

To those recognised—well deserved.
To the wider group— standards like this are what separate good players from those who go on to achieve more in the game.

Here are the results for our Seaview Hotel Townsville U18 Elite Girls as they progressed through the Tropical 7s tournament.

It wasn't an easy journey for the girls suffering 3 tour ending injuries on the first day of competition and another 2 on the second day. Adversity and hardship is often the catalyst for great performances and the girls certainly left the field with the respect and admiration of all who witnessed them play.

On top of demonstrating pure grit and determination the U18s mentored and encouraged the U16's as they headed into their finals matches. The selflessness and leadership displayed by all our U18's was second to none. We are so proud of the girls and we know that lessons learnt in the USA will be taken back and applied which will see success in both club and representative rugby in 2026.

We very much appreciate the new connections and friendships formed and the amazing spirit in which the game was played.
