PARENTS!! DANCE CLASSES FOR KIDS AGES 4-8!!
Your child’s early years should be filled with wonder, play and magic. At Centralia Ballet Academy, we teach our smallest students by combining those elements with music and movement. And while they are being creative and having fun, our teachers are laying a foundation of classical dance technique that will stay with them as their learning continues. Those little bunnies, kitties, and mermaids you see in the studio will soon grow into snow queens, nutcrackers, and sugar plum fairies on the stage. We have classes for kids ages 2 and above, and we would love to have you try one out. Lyrical Dance is our featured dance form today! Lyrical dance derives its name from the lyrics of the music to which it is performed. With a base in ballet, lyrical dance blends contemporary and other dance forms into a beautiful expression of the music.
Lyrical is open to students ages 10 and up. Generally, students should have a minimum of one-two previous year(s) of formal ballet training before trying this class.

"Character dance is considered an essential part of training across Europe—Bolshoi Ballet Academy students study it for five years, and must pass two character exams before they enter the company. However, it is rarely taught in depth in the U.S. outside of major-company schools."

Today, we feature Musical Theatre and Jazz at CBA!

Musical Theatre class is geared toward ages 8 and up and includes basic dance technique, particularly basic jazz dance, as well as some acting games. Part of the year's program also includes working with a vocal coach. Students learn numbers to sing and dance! Previous or concurrent ballet training is encouraged but not required for Musical Theatre.

We begin jazz dance at age 12, as it requires a base of ballet technique (students must have taken or concurrently be taking some ballet), as well as a body awareness for the body isolations of the technique. Jazz is a fun dance form that uses the rhythms of jazz and pop music and isolations of different body parts to create a range of styles.

CBA has a fantastic tap program for ages 7 through adult! Tap dance is great for improving rhythm and mental focus, while providing a fun form of exercise! Want to try? Check out these classes at CBA:
Tap 1: For ages 7 and up (must be at least 7 in the fall and must know their right from their left), this class will introduce kids to tap dance.
Teen Tap: A beginner level class for ages 13-21
Beginning Adult Tap - For adults that want to try tap!

More advanced classes also available for those with previous experience.

As you might guess by the name of our school, ballet is central to what we do. It is our passion and there are so many great benefits to ballet training... to name just a few: body awareness and control, a fun form of exercise, mental concentration and focus, self-discipline, self-confidence - and a great base for the study of many other dance forms. We offer Ballet 1 (the start of formal ballet training) for ages 8 and up (ages 13 and older can begin with our Teen/Adult ballet). Students enrolled in at least one ballet class are also eligible to audition for Nutcracker!
