For a lot of years my good buddy Rod Rinta would ask me to move up to 3rd base when runners were on 1st and second or bases were loaded. The idea was for me to field the ball touch my bag at third throw him the ball at second and then finish the 5-4-3 triple play by him firing the ball to first. No body I have ever played with could turn a double play like Rod at second base. His hands were so quick. We never got the opportunity to turn a triple play. This past weekend at the 35th and final Oechsner Softball Tournament the magic happened. In the championship game between the Mound Pounders and us (Willie’s Sport Shop) they had the bases loaded with no outs. A sharp ground ball was hit to Kealen Steen at 3rd he fielded it touched the bag, fired the ball to Elijah Johnson who touched 2nd and fired to Brent Colson at 1st. 5-4-3 triple play. I was proud of my team and I’m sure Rod was smiling down from heaven.
