Definitely a busy weekend for Liquid Fire fishing out of Morehead City! Two events in two days – Saturday with the wider fishing boundaries and Sunday with the tighter fishing boundaries.
In the Cape Lookout Shootout Tournament Series, North Div. Leg 2 – we weighed in a 22.83 and 20.87 with a 43.70 aggregate which placed us 31st out of 60 teams all fishing on Saturday. The bait we had pinned in advance had not survived the heat. Took a bit to find pogies and get started fishing. Had some bite-offs, but that’s all a part of fishing. Earned some decent points towards the series.
Sunday, we headed out again to fish the Cape Shootout Classic Series North Div. Leg 2 (David Pennington Memorial KMT). Again, took a bit to get bait and get on with fishing. But all in all, it was a better day as we placed 7th Overall and 3rd Aggregate for a nice payday - along with 2nd Place Junior and 2nd Place Lady! Our kings were 28.47 and 13.65 for a 42.12 total. A total of 94 teams competed in this captain’s choice event. Good points for qualifying for the championship. We needed these points for Southern Kingfish Association Division 1 as well.
Congrats to the top placing teams each of these events, Gone Again and Backlash, and to all that caught a king or two and made the leaderboard! It was not easy fishing, especially for those that fished both days in rough seas. SiriusXM Marine Weather and Fish Mapping onboard was a must-have!
