Champ Off-Road – Crandon, Wisconsin Race Update 🏁

It was finally time to debut the brand-new Champ-built Turbo Talon at its first official Champ Series race… and it just happened to be the biggest event of their season. If you’ve never been to a race at Crandon, you’re missing out. The crowds here rival major NFL or NASCAR events.

The new build has been a challenge from the start. It’s been dealing with a strange electrical/ignition-type issue that causes a clean shut-off right at or near full throttle, usually in 4th or 5th gear. No codes, restarts like nothing is wrong, and it’s been incredibly hard to pin down. We thought we had it sorted after racing it at the Outlaw event in Missouri last month where it ran strong (though there were a couple moments that didn’t feel 100%).

At Crandon the problem came back with a vengeance. Qualifying went poorly and we fired the parts cannon trying to fix it. A quick test afterward looked okay… until the Saturday race. The car shut off on the holeshot and again in a high-speed turn, which caused it to roll over and land back on its wheels. We suffered some left-front suspension damage.

We could have repaired the suspension for Sunday, but without a clear fix for the electrical issue we made the call to spectate and bring the car home for a deep dive at the shop. The disappointment is real and gut-wrenching, but Crandon delivered an incredible event with some of the best fans and racers in the world.

Huge thanks to every single person who showed up and helped with the car. I’m truly grateful for everyone's efforts as we really were able to do some amazing things in effort to fix the issue.
We’ll get this sorted at the shop and be back stronger.

Weekend Update – Gremlin Eviction Day 🔧🏁

What a crazy day of hunting down and finally evicting the gremlins from the Pro SXS Turbo Talon!

Nathan Plouff from — if you’re in Wisconsin and not using Hodag Honda, you’re missing out. This guy gets it. He also jumped in and helped change a rear axle on the Turbo Talon like it was his own job… and I just met him. Solid human and knows exactly what he’s doing.

After a disastrous qualifying run (car kept shutting off), we’ll be starting at the tail end of the field today at 4:10 p.m.

Pits Update 🏁 From Crandon, Wisconsin!

I wish I could capture how packed this place is in a single picture — it’s a full house out here!

Pitted right next to Tom Rutkowski and directly across from the world-famous chocolate milk model and spokesperson who also happens to be a pretty dang good driver and overall solid human… Cross Kirchmeier!

Today has been one of those stressful ones. A gremlin in the car keeps sticking his head out at the worst possible times just to test my patience.

Thankfully tomorrow is a parade day with no racing, which gives us a welcome chance to hunt this thing down and get the car right for Saturday and Sunday.

Appreciate everyone who’s been following on social media and swinging by the pits to say hi. Let’s make the rest of the weekend a good one!

The Talons are stacked and loaded. Headed to the Big House in Crandon Wisconsin for the Champ Series race. It's been a crazy week pulling it all together. Thanks to Greg J Rekward for pulling off the road trip for a trailer axle and for installing it while we worked at dialing in the race cars!

Take a lap in the new build we did for the Champ Series but have unfortunately not been able to race it in that series yet. So, we entered it at the Outlaw Central Series at the Loop 2 round 8. Weighing in at 200 lbs more than the Outlaw car, this dog can hunt!

Outlaw Central Series – Rounds 7 & 8 at The Loop 2 Race Report 🏁💪

What a wild and painful weekend at The Loop 2 for Rounds 7 & 8 of the Outlaw Central Series!

Friday went smooth — practice and qualifying were solid with both Turbo Talons. I brought the proven Outlaw car plus the brand-new Champ Series build that we haven’t been able to race in its intended series yet. I entered the new car in its own exhibition class just to get valuable seat time and setup data without affecting anyone else’s points.

Saturday started rough. Woke up at 6:00 AM in absolute agony that wouldn’t let up. By 9:00 AM I was in the ER and diagnosed with a kidney stone. Thankfully the scans showed it was almost to the bladder, and by noon they cleared me to race on Sunday. What a way to start the weekend!

Sunday – Round 8
The schedule got flipped and I missed the update, so I rolled to the line in the Pro Turbo class with the brand-new Champ car that had almost zero fine tuning or real seat time. Trial by fire!

Moto 1 (Pro Turbo): **P2 — not bad for a green car!
Turned right around and ran the Exhibition class they created for me → P1 (and 1st overall when combined with the other classes).
Moto 2 (Pro Turbo): Another **P2 → secured 1st Overall for Round 8 in the Champ car!
Also picked up another P1 in the Exhibition class.

The new Champ Talon impressed everyone with how well it performed on such short notice. The Outlaw car got a well-deserved rest for most of the weekend (aside from qualifying).

Huge thanks to the Outlaw Series and Tom who helped keep things moving while I was dealing with the kidney stone drama. Now we head into summer break and come back strong at the end of September for two more rounds here at The Loop 2, followed by four final rounds at Lucas Oil Speedway.

This is all the action my race suit had today at the Outlaw Central Series race. The only trophy I got was the ER wrist band. New track in Missouri named The Loop 2 that threw me for a loop. This is a huge riding park that's evidently open 24/7.

Not the race weekend update I expected to post… 😅

Woke up at 6am in some serious pain and ended up at the Lake of the Ozarks ER. Turns out I was hosting an unscheduled race of my own — a kidney stone sprinting from my kidney to my bladder.

New personal best in the “most painful thing I’ve ever done at a race” category. Definitely a wild new spin on that I never want to run again.

Good news? I’m medically cleared and will be on the line tomorrow in both the #911 and #01 Pro Turbo Honda Talons.
