HSB Summer Spotlight ➡️ Alexa Muller 🇪🇸

This summer, rising junior, Alexa Muller ‘28 interned with ASE Athletics, a sports startup based in Madrid, as a Sales, Business Development, and Marketing Intern. Working across several areas of the company, she gained firsthand experience with the fast-paced and collaborative environment of a startup. Her work included outreach to potential investors, sponsors, and partners, researching new growth opportunities, analyzing target audiences, and helping develop ASE Athletics’ Academy of Football and Technology.

Muller was drawn to the opportunity to combine her interests in sports and business while stepping into an industry that was new to her. Beyond gaining professional experience, living and working in Madrid pushed her outside of her comfort zone, helping her become more independent, adaptable, and confident while improving her Spanish and learning to communicate across different cultures.

Favorite memory: Experiencing Madrid during Spain’s World Cup victory. With the streets packed and celebrations continuing for days, Muller got to experience the incredible energy of a country so deeply connected to sports and its culture.

HSB Summer Spotlight ➡️ Alexa Wohr ⚾️🏔️

This summer, Alexa interned with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, gaining hands-on experience across multiple areas of the organization. Her primary role was on the nonprofit side, where she helped plan and prepare youth baseball clinics across the country, reached out to companies to secure sponsorships, and supported events that connected former Major League players with the next generation of athletes. She also worked with the Membership and Development department, researching new benefits and resources to better support former Major League players and their families.

Alexa was drawn to the MLBPAA because she knew she wanted to build a career in sports, but wasn’t yet sure what that career might look like. The opportunity allowed her to combine her passion for baseball with meaningful work that gives back to the sport that has given her so much throughout her life. By taking on a variety of responsibilities across departments, she expanded her skill set, explored different sides of the sports industry, and gained a clearer understanding of the type of work she hopes to pursue in the future.

Moving to Colorado on her own also made this summer a meaningful experience personally. Being in a new place pushed Alexa outside of her comfort zone and helped her grow in confidence, independence, and appreciation for the people who have supported her along the way. She made it a goal to explore a new part of Colorado each week—from discovering hiking trails and local restaurants and coffee shops to taking scenic drives at sunset—and embraced the opportunity to experience life beyond softball.

Favorite part: The people she met and the connections she made through the youth baseball clinics. Organizing a free youth clinic is no small task, but seeing everything come together and watching former Major League players give their time and share their knowledge with young athletes showed Alexa just how special the baseball community truly is.

HSB Summer Spotlight ➡️ Nikki Hunter ‘27 🏥

This summer, rising senior Nikki Hunter ‘27 participated in the Health Scholar program at Saint John’s Hospitals in Camarillo and Oxnard, where she gained hands-on experience across multiple hospital departments.

As a Health Scholar, Nikki worked in general units including Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and the Acute Care Unit, where she had more direct interaction with patients and was able to support them throughout their healthcare journey. She also spent time in specialized areas such as the Emergency Department, Mother-Infant/Labor and Delivery, and Radiology. Through each department, Nikki was able to observe nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals and see how they work together to provide individualized care.

Nikki was drawn to the program because she wanted to experience healthcare from the viewpoint of the medical care team and healthcare workers. Throughout the summer, she gained a deeper appreciation for people from all walks of life and learned an important lesson about working in healthcare: her most interesting day or complex case could be someone else's worst day of their life. The experience taught her that remaining a steady source of comfort and care is one of the most important parts of being a healthcare professional.

One of Nikki’s favorite parts of the experience was getting to witness the wide variety of cases and procedures throughout the hospital. She witnessed her first vaginal birth, including a successful VBAC, as well as CT scans, biopsies, and a wide range of emergency cases. Most rewarding, however, were the relationships she built with patients and their families. Hearing patients and family members tell her how much better their hospital stay was because she was there to help, and becoming a familiar face for patients with longer stays, made the experience especially meaningful. This summer gave Nikki an invaluable look into healthcare and reinforced her passion for providing comfort, care, and support to patients during some of the most important moments of their lives.

She was drawn to Leveraged Finance because she wanted to work in a technical, fast-paced environment while gaining exposure to live transactions across multiple sectors. She was especially excited to develop her financial modeling skills and see how deals progress from initial analysis through ex*****on.

Throughout the summer, Sophie strengthened both her technical and professional skills by working through financial analyses and forecasting, collaborating with various deal teams, and working directly with clients. These experiences gave her valuable insight into the industry while allowing her to grow and learn in a fast-paced professional environment.
